The recent discussions of shantung ties and knot size embolden me to ask for suggestions of ties to go with my light blue silk/linen blend sport jacket. Here’s a close-up of the fabric.

    Note:

    (1) The reason the knot size discussion is relevant is that I need a tie that won’t make too large a knot. I’m thin (jacket shoulder-seam-to-shoulder-seam measurement is 17”) and my collar size is 15.

    (2) Since this is a purely seasonal jacket, I’d prefer not to spend as much as I might on a year-round staple tie.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

    Cheers,

    Ac

I know shantung is a summer fabric, but I don't think you should necessary restrict yourself from wearing it in Spring and Fall, particularly if it's an earthy color.

This CW would go well with that jacket.

and I think this could be worn well into the fall (shibumi)

i see no reason not to wear those in F/W, except that inevitably you will get shit for it. also, you are at the stage to handle an orange tie.

Two examples of where I think it works. The latter picture is actually what inspired me to get one at some point.

meh, not an easy color, but the past day here has proven it can be done quite nicely.

Tetrachromacy is thought to exist in humans and other primates though, if I recall correctly. Maybe there are women out there who perceive our lack of quaternary colored ties as a grave fitness indicator. [IMG]

Fascinating. I had never heard of that, looked it up, and you are right. But it's rare, and thought only to exist in a small proportion of females. Then there's this:

In humans, preliminary visual processing occurs within the neurons of the retina. It is not known how these nerves would respond to a new color channel, that is, whether they could handle it separately or just combine it in with an existing channel. Visual information leaves the eye by way of the optic nerve; it is not known whether the optic nerve has the spare capacity to handle a new color channel. A variety of final image processing takes place in the brain; it is not known how the various areas of the brain would respond if presented with a new color channel. [wikipedia]

Tie, shoes and bag are nicely matched. Actually I really like that bag. Any idea what it is?
