Exactly. Grenadines are lovely, and SF-gold, but they're not what you need most right now. Look again at those neat pattern Macclesfields, madders and challises.

rudals, glad you enjoyed the recs.

i think the silver will work with white or blue, but on white it will be a super formal look.

i think ya'll are sleeping on this guy:

yes, the burgundy area is a bit rough as its raw silk, but its not very rough and it will not be noticeable from afar. its a beautiful and very versatile color and pattern imo, conservative enough, but also interesting.

Of Clag's two picks there, I also picked out the first one: it's more formal (I think) than a grenadine, and about as plain as you can go with a solid and not be completely dull. But on his second pick, I think this is where you have to take a leap of faith, dear Noodles: that one isn't my favourite as I find the colour a bit bright, but in pattern and scale it's exactly what you need.

Just back from the day job to find such good stuff here. Indeed an education, such stella advice!

Lots of people putting in some excellent work, Rudals well done to elicit such love man!

Rudals, late to the party I may be but I can say I like the green in your basket, I also like v much http://www.exquisitetrimmings.com/products/Ties/Green-36oz-SelfTipped-Floral-Print-Foulard.html

Clags makes a great suggestion here and Mimo picks out beautifully the reason why. Stitchy, as ever lights the road ahead.

There are of course rules written and otherwise that should be observed, at the same time when you employ solid principles there is room for a personal twist or flirtation. Holdfast makes the point well. Above all else the good SF people I admire here employ an elegant simplicity, golden rule for me.

I too like a blue suit, I have three of different shades, I have blue ties that work with them though it is all in the shades and how they balance so don't discount a blue tie. That said…

Below is a suggestion or two to consider from Blighty

    Foulard - http://www.drakes-london.com/online...lf-tip-36oz-printed-silk-foulard-8cm-tie-5569

    Royal Twill - http://www.drakes-london.com/online...ip-50oz-royal-twill-8cm-printed-silk-tie-5084

    Ancient madder - http://www.drakes-london.com/online...elf-tip-real-ancient-madder-8cm-silk-tie-6068

    Jacquard - http://www.drakes-london.com/online-shop/ties/view-all/woven-jacquard-8cm-silk-tie-6074

    Repp - http://www.drakes-london.com/online-shop/ties/view-all/double-warp-stripe-reppe-8cm-silk-tie-3383

As I say just suggestions, maybe the madder is a bridge too far right now but I think this may form the basis of a good collection.

I have two ties about to arrive from Gianni any time now. A cashmere navy blue polka and an olive green silk paisley both for different occasions and nonetheless very exciting.

Looking forward to sharing them with you soon.

Ordered just this for now. But I will do more shopping this weekend. My budget is really tight because of the engagement ring..."sigh."
I will definitely not let any of the suggestions go to waste. I will most likely pick out ties suggested here.

I'm very much hoping you are talking with Stitchy about the ring. He set Mrs. C and I up with our wedding bands.

Why of course! I PM'd Stitchie and told him some specs. I needed my fiance to figure out what the heck she wants so I told her to just walk into Tiffany's and try on different ring and figure out which carrot size is the best for her and which design she likes. I will never buy from Tiffany's though. Once that's squared away, I need to call Stitchie.

that is a superb tie choice. i love that.

after tiffany puts the wrong idea in your fiances head please call me so i can fix things. :p

but srsly, its a good start as far as getting an idea of stone size, but its not the best place to get an education imho.

also, i shit you not, i saved one SFer 13 large by not buying from tiffany.
