Doodals, There are many lasts that suit me and a few that don't. If you're able to try on some real shoes you'll get a sense of what will work for you but more importantly what doesn't.

A good example for me is a chat I had with @in stitches some time back about these of mine which are the same as the dark brown ones you like above, but in sueded obviously.

He kindly asked about them, however, on learning the last he crossed them off any potential kop list as they wouldn't fit him as he would like. He knows his stuff so doesn't waste time and importantly money on gear that doesn't work.

If you go to the great shoes threads on these boards you'll notice regular questions, advice etc regarding comparative lasts between, for example C & J, EG, Lobb, G & G, Carmina etc etc etc You could be a 10 in C & J and a 9 in Lobb, expensive mistake for someone if they don't do their homework. So, if you'll forgive the pun, you need to bench mark what last/s work for you.

Those EG dub monks up there ^ are sleeker and a little looser in the heel on the 888 last than my C & G dub monks on 348 last which are very snug in the heel and a tad roomier in the forefoot. The Lobb dub monks could have been made for me, they are all the same size, but different lasts.

    Make sense buddy?

There's a good Carmina sizing thread on this site, by the way, since we're using that one as an example of how much sizes can vary.

Carmina owners post their size in each last they own and comment on fit, etc. Great content for online buying.

Good stuff, Cleav. Those are so pretty tho. I need a dark brown suede captoe. Will get the Carmina or Meermin one of these days.

    +1

A suede captoe shoe is the last type of shoe I've deemed essential and still don't own.

Part of it is my concern about Boston weather and having them quickly ruin.

    Right you are Squire.

In the meantime, pick up your fave pair of kicks and measure em for me. Length, width and copy in a pic particularly of how they lace up. draw a sketch, any clues are good.

Know you're busy with matters of the heart so do this when you like but do let me know buddy

Quoting for emphasis. We have all kinds of threads on SF about people with widish feet sizing up for narrow lasts and people with narrow feet sizing down for wider lasts, instead of just buying shoes that actually fit their feet.

Then there's the issue about what shoe silhouette works best for you. I bought a pair of C&J handgrade Belgraves that I loved, except for the fact they were too tight for my somewhat wide foot and looked cartoonish on my size 12 feet. I wore them a dozen times before I realized the problem wasn't going away and I kept reaching for a more comfortable pair of shoes every time i had a full day ahead. Now, they've been sitting on my shelf for 9 months until I find the time to list them on EBay.

My longwinded point can be summed up in one sentence: buy shoes that fit your feet and silhouette, not what looks prettiest or is on sale. Okay, one more sentence: listen to Cleave; he won't steer you wrong.
