What I was thinking of as a a "jarring" juxtaposition. But white/cream satin is perhaps too "extreme": what of a shiny paisley square or something with more variegated colors?

I did indeed listen to Foo. But outside of the uselessness of the square, that's the level of sheen I'm talking about. There's a big difference between that sheen and what I see on Drakes. Would you wear something that slick with tweed?

I think vigorous discussion is fine so long as there's argument (in the logical sense)...we'll see.

If that's the case you were thinking of, I would agree with you for what it's worth, but that seems the outlier. I was thinking you were thinking something closer to the mean for silkiness in PS.

Nothing is more important and worth fighting over than #menswear.

That said, I hope you realize that my indignant tone is purely facetious. Clags and I are buddies (I hope).

I had hoped you were having a go at the thread's title. :)

But to further explore, a wetter Drakes and a drier Marinella. Patterns and colors aside, the wetness of the Drakes could work, but the dryness of the other I think jives better

Oh! My bad. With that context, now I can see.
    Sorry about that. [IMG]

Agreed. I think a dark navy satin tie may have been less jarring but definitely still sub-optimal with tweed (though I also think that the texture and finish of the tie is more significant than that of the pocket square since you see a lot more of the tie and a square isn't going to occupy as much real estate). I think Cary Grant mostly wore suits and picked his ties accordingly, leading to a couple of sub-optimal looks with odd jackets.
