1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

No, Greg is talking about a purchase that I made before getting married. The bank sent out confirm requests to all the vendors from a selected time period due to some suspicion. Greg was the only vendor that did not respond to the request. Hence the chargeback.

This is just getting too messy.

I didn't know Clags had kids. My bad! Does he dress them in all blue too?

But yeah, that's one of the reasons why boutiques are better, no annoying loud kids.

The place I was staying at in Vietnam was filled with kids and uptight white people. I always got odd looks when I would return. Generally dusty, dirty, and exhausted. But that was because it was a resort hotel. The other places in SEA, there were less families and more European or Middle Eastern businesspeople.

Their inseams and jackets are short enough to fit some kids, that's for sure.

But are most lodgings on Airbnb actual people's homes, or do some peope exclusively rent out furnished apartments? Wouldn't want to live in someone's home, I will find things to be disgusted at

Amen. I'm not ready for "the sharing economy" when it comes to where I sleep.

I have friends who own hotels and from what they've told me, the same can be said about hotels.

You should've shopped at Nordstroms, they accept all returns.

Noodles, did you know suitsupply remade a pair of MTM trousers just because they didn't have cuffs on them? The trousers alone cost around $400, and I'm allowed to keep the pair that didn't have cuffs.

Now that's what I call good customer service.

What were you talking about, then? Are there hotels that come with unexpected surprises like fuzzy green toilet covers, Nazi paraphernalia, or pet hair?

You weren't talking about motels, were you?

Yes, some people own houses and apartments solely to rent out on Airbnb, VRBO, etc. In the Bay Area and some other communities, the extent of that use of property is potentially having a meaningful (negative) effect on housing supply and pricing. They are a good way to get a multi-room rental for a short stay at a reasonable price, though.

Combination of the two. My sister and her husband recently rented out a rental apartment in Montreal for two weeks via Airbnb. She was a bit skeeved out by the prospect of living in someone's home, and also thought that a management company would be more responsive to any issues that arose with the rental. Indeed, the management company replaced a broken crib the morning after it broke.

One big advantage of Airbnb, especially if you are staying for a week or longer, is that you can live more like a resident and less like a visitor. Hotels tend to be confined to the business/tourist areas of town, which often are less interesting. We stayed in the Plateau neighborhood of Montreal, and visited the same shops and playground every day. It was a much different, and richer, experience than my trip to Montreal four years earlier, when I stayed in a hotel downtown.
