1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

@Academic2 my grandfather was a professor back in the day and I heard some horror stories about how snooty, territorial, and close minded some could be. I can only imagine what it's like today

Yeah, I was "threatening" for all kinds of reasons: wore a suit/jacket and tie to teach, was in my office lots, was literally half the age of most of my colleagues, etc. You know, very serious aggressions on my part....Basically, it was a department plagued with people who were just trying to get by with the minimum, and I wasn't playing along with the rules/culture. I am certain this is an issue in all lines of work; the particulars of mine were funny (you know, after I left).

Probably no quantifiable way, but it is most certainly a real thing.

Obviously, "career suicide" is over the top, but I have absolutely been victim of the "out of touch" moniker for wearing suits to an office where shirt and tie (truly appalling, I know) was the norm. The most galling of it all was that this was supposedly a professional conservative environment lol.

Note: the alligator cowboy boots did NOT go over well there on casual friday!

Do you think it's because the shape of the extra buttonhole is similar to the shape of an eye, and since the buttonhole is smaller than a real eye, it tricks you into seeing your eyes as smaller?

I think both trains of thought are accurate. Being put together is great for one off and/or first time meetings, whereas consistently being more put together than someone (colleagues, etc) can definitely cause resentment, or, at the very least, some raised eyebrows.

Along those lines ... kinda ...

I work in finance but in a more business casual setting because it isn't a client facing role and blah, blah, blah. Most people will just wear a button down, and thankfully no tie - definitely no jacket.

I'll wear the pretty standard SC, shirt and tie get up most of the time and sometimes forgo the tie on a Friday or when the weather keeps getting hotter and I switch over the linen shirts and more casual jackets, or no jacket at all.

I've been dressing this way for a while now so I don't hear any comments unless it's from someone new, but way too many times I'd be dressed like this and someone would ask where I am interviewing.

It's like ... hopefully nowhere, since I'm not dressed for it.

What? You don't stay on SF 24 hrs/day and constantly watch for updates?

Well, you must be wearing a blue suit in the first one, right? And a brown in the second?

I'd guess the second (brown suit) is the 3r2. Definitely makes your eyes look smaller.

Somehow, I'd hoped a picnic attack would be more... well, more.
