1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Does anyone actually prioritize quantity (for quantity's sake)?

I wonder what Vox's or Foo's limits are... surely they put the pocketbooks of us mortals to shame [IMG]

    For me....

Self Imposed Limits: none that I'm aware of.

Edit: just to make clear: there are certainly limits, but they are not self imposed [IMG]

Beats me on all counts. A few times I've paid more than 100 USD for a tie (including shipping), but that's the closest I get to any of these in any category.

For whatever reason I find myself less excited about things the farther they get from my torso. By the time I get to my feet I find myself averse to large cash outlays, however much I might admire a beautiful pair of shoes.

    Cheers,

    Ac

P.s.: Noodles, you didn't mention belts, which is what started this. I'm guessing around $10,000?

    Cheers,

I'm not sure what mine would be exactly, but here is what I'm in the process of obtaining:

Suits: ~$6,500 (I'd probably draw the line right above here, though)
    Shirts: ~$1,150 (same here)
Shoes: ~$4-5,000 (could conceivably spend a bit more)
Ties: $150 (although I could see myself spending more and probably will at some point in the future)

And just like that a Jos. A Bank banner is hovering over this thread. Next time, let's try "Starbucks is the supermodel of coffee shops."

Totally random, but you're now at 3,333 posts (caught the corner of my eye).

You should totally pull an @Manton move and just edit that one post for the next while. 3 is a cool number [IMG]

Fun game. I mostly lurk because I'm mostly broke and about to start medical residency in a year so here are my current limits and also what I think I'd be willing to pay while in residency/soon thereafter:

Suit: $400 ($600) - I just don't wear suits enough to justify spending more. Would like to be able to purchase fully canvassed eventually. Even when I'm a practicing Psychiatrist I imagine I'll wear an odd jacket and trousers on private practice days more often than a suit. And it's just more practical when bouncing between private clinic and county hospital to be able to take off an odd jacket and not worry about damaging a matching set of pants.
Jacket: $300 ($600) - Most I've spent RTW is around $280 on sale, I usually buy on Yoox or Ebay. Living in TX I would like to eventually have a fresco jacket made and that'll break the budget but I'd still try to shoot for sub-$800. I feel like I have a ton of options in this price range, both new and used.
Trousers: $100 ($100) - Lots of thrifitng and ebaying going on here for pants that usually retail north of $200-250. The most I've ever paid was $70 for a pair of Luciano Barbera gray flannels. Been pretty fortunate. Wear my trousers hard and frequently so I don't want to pay much more as I think regardless of quality I'll be going through them rather quick. Have a big collection already including lots of Corneliani for PRL w/ forward pleats which suits my frame and tastes nicely.
Shirt: $45 ($100) - Basically I'll move up to Kamakura but I'm in TX. It's hot. I know these will get worn out quick no matter what because I'll do quite a bit of walking outdoors.
Square: $30 ($40) - Eh. I like the Drakes squares I've gotten on sale. Don't feel a need to go above that really and don't wear squares that often
Tie: $40 ($80) - Pretty happy with what I can get at these price points on Styleforum/Ebay/places like the Knottery
Shoes: $300 ($450) - The most I've spent is $435 on a pair of NIB cordovan RL Marlow wingtips $460 on new #8 shell Alden boots. I try to buy new and I've generally been happy with options at this price point. Moving away from AE to Carmina because they're just more comfortable for me
Socks: $8 ($15) - Lands End used to have great merino OTCs, looking for another cheap supplier now
Belt: $30 ($70) - I have one AE full grain belt and it's incredible. Willing to pay for more belts like this, it just makes such a huge difference in how things feel as the day goes on.

Does she give you an envelope every month marked "clothes" with a certain amount of money which you have no control over inside? [IMG]

I struggled with this decision for an entire minute before realizing achievements lose their luster with time. It's time to start working towards 4,444.

Okay, I also wanted to echo the other comment asking WTF about the $1,100 dress shirts. The only way I can fathom this is if the shirts are delivered by a beautiful woman that shows up at your door wearing nothing but the shirt. She only stays an hour, but leaves the shirt for you.

Hell, maybe that's why they cost so much, but at this point I'm unaware of that service. [IMG]
Maybe it's been too long since the threads about the $1,000+ dress shirts for you guys to remember

I think a lot of people, while they don't explicitly choose quantity over quality, do see diminishing marginal returns at some point. If I upgraded from Hemrajani to Savile Row, I would have a much smaller wardrobe.

Noodles, haven't you spent more than those suit maxes already?

I think max for me =

    Suit - 2.5k
    Jacket - 1.5k
    Pants - 350
    Shoes - 700
    Shirt - 175
