Speaking of how brown ties rule, I've been on the hunt for a brown based tie with red stripes. Anyone know of any?

I think brown solid looks better with navy and gray than burgundy solid. A burgundy neat, however, is more essential than a brown neat.

I would say of a ten tie CBD wardrobe, two would be stripes. Four would be patterned. Four would be solid. One of the patterns and one of the solids are wool. Five are from Hober.

    1. Nice, but very 2014, and what trousers would you wear it with?
    2. I really like this cloth, and I could see it working well as basically a second navy blazer for cool weather. Think it would make up beautifully in the Eidos style.
    3. Not enough texture. Would make a nice suit.
    4. It's like a greenish gray? Seems too plain to be funky, and too funky to be elegant.
    5. Love blue hopsack, and get a ton of wear out of it. It's the perfect fabric for a spring/summer/fall navy blazer (if half-lined).

So, if you want this to be a total staple, get #5. If you want it to be something a little bit special, get #2.

36 (the green) looks really cool, Murl, and I'm certainly partial to green. Then again, your other Eidos is gray with green overcheck, yes?

I'm with YRR92--the second-from-top in your first batch is a really special fabric that combines versatility with tons of visual interest. That jacket + fawn Rotas would be a winner all day long.

Okay - here we go. Inspired by Clag in the 20 thumbs up thread I tried this combination today. Am I getting closer? The trousers are not ideal (cotton) but I have no others until some stuff arrives from overseas. I also haven't had the tailor look at the jacket yet so obviously I need the sleeves lengthened for a start. The main issue is whether I am getting color/pattern combos right.

For those curious (obviously it's not important):

    Jacket: canterelli
    Shirt: Kiton
    Tie: Dege and Skinner
    Trousers: Brioni
    Shoes: Santoni
    Pocket Square: Drakes.

    jstar,
    I like this.
Is the jacket a hard 3?

I think it might be to be honest - my preference is two. Buttoning the top one would probably help the fit a little.

Jfrater, leaps and bounds above what you posted at the weekend! Pencil striped shirts get more love--justifiably so, IMHO--than butcher stripes, and the color of the stripe looks pretty close to the jacket, but I think this is a good summer look (you're in the Southern Hemisphere, yes?).

Clags beat me too it. I think solid brown beats solid burgundy but a Id get a burgundy based neat before a brown one.

    ---

Murl, no question here. If you dont have a perfect solid navy SC get the bottom one in the first pic, and if you do, get the check in the first pic in the first post.

    ---

Jfrat, mostly good. Top block is pretty nice, though I dont like the square personally. Too exciting for me. And again I think the pants are not crisp enough for the top block. Kinda wish that was a suit, but really light/dove gray pants with that SC would be perfect.

Most Cantarelli are designed to be 3r2, although the morons at some online retailers do the product shots with the top button fastened...making it appear to be a hard 3.

Yep - it's not the nicest summer day today but it is summer nevertheless :)

I have to confess I have a great love for that pocket square because it has bicycles on it and I love old bikes and flying machines as a motif. I am ordering some light grey trousers soon that will be a much better fit and match so I'll definitely try it again then :)
