Kamakura is really awesome if it fits. They just don't fit me in the shoulders :(.

They've somehow hexed their collars to roll magically. I don't know what pact they made with the devil, but there you go for $79 a pop.

If you were to start a tie collection with just 5 ties what would they be? Say budget at $350

Kamakura's BD collars are very nice, but the sleeves are ridiculously long, 35.5-36". You could try Luxire, you can have the same BD collar for the same price and fully 'bespoke' (they cut individual patterns) at that.

What's your neck size and arm length and which shirt brand/cut fits you the best?

    No need for your snark.
    My bad, sorry about that.
I'm redoing my MC wardrobe and wanted to hear some thoughts. I have ~20 ties but very few that I would say work be for a more conservative environment.

    Was thinking:
Navy and Burgundy grenadines (knottery has some cheap for preorder, though they aren't too good? Have a green one from Drake's but not too appropriate?)
    Blue with white dots
Red / white repp? have this
Navy / green repp? have this

I like shantungs the most but they aren't too appropriate right?

It's a noob question that I should have added more context to. I don't think I've ever seen a noob question go answered without a little bit of sarcasm ever on SF

This threads a little different. You'll get out of it what you put into it. [IMG]

For my needs I think the following is a good start. Happy to know how I score.

    Burgundy Grossa Grenadine
    [IMG]
    Brown Neat
    [IMG]
    Navy Knit/Navy Mohair-Wool
    [IMG]
    Green Challis
    [IMG]
    Shantung Repp
    [IMG]

The particular ties aren't as important to me as the general ideas of what I may need. I still need to make decisions on particular neat patterns or widths, etc.

If I could do only 5 ties:

    - Black grenadine
    - Navy grenadine
    - Burgundy oxford weave
    - Silver / grey grenadine
    - Navy or midnight pin dot

In all seriousness, I think that for someone who wears a tie on a regular basis (say 3-4 times a week), you want a minimum of 10-12 ties in your wardrobe. A dark green solid, a couple of neats on dark green / brown / navy / burgundy, maybe a repp and another pin dot would add to the list nicely.

Trust us. There are no jerks allowed here. And luv2breformed was not being sarcastic.

Now, if you're actually looking for ties that would go well in a conservative environment, I'd say you go back and look at the first 10 pages or so.
There are really really good suggestions and they might be exactly what you're looking for. Let us know if that doesn't help.

    A) goes back to previous well discussed and valuable contributions/discussions worth reading again in context with Luv's requirements

    B) goes back to a reasonable question taken up reasonably.

Bahaha, you just needed a little more context. There are several "project" people in this thread currently. Currently they are Rudals, jungleroller, and myself. Read the first 2 pages and you can see that Rudals was given homework to select ties by several people. I have yet to be given such homework as I am a more recent "project". Given your incredibly high post count, I thought that you were trying to challenge me to think about what sort of ties would work best for my wardrobe. I was genuinely excited to work through the problem.

If somebody else would like to grade me, I'd appreciate it. Clags?

Edit: Beat to it by about 10 others . . .

Who's that fine looking young gentleman in your last picture? He look so sharp, he could cut you.

    Jokes aside, I like #2, 4, and 5.
What's up with the textures of the ties you picked out?
#5, speaking from experience, is a very versatile tie (although not for winter) but I don't know if it is still in stock.

I currently wear 15.5/34 Extra Slim Fits from Brooks Brothers. After they are washed the sleeves are actually a tad short for my taste, thinking of going to 15.5/35. Also, they are actually a tad baggy for my preference as well.

Given that info, do you think that I might actually be a decent candidate for Kamakura, MF? I struggle to find anything in their Tokyo Slim Fit that fits my measurements. Also, I will check out Luxire. Thanks!

stevent and L2BR, allow me to quote myself:

As for shantung, I don't think it has any place in a five-tie wardrobe.

I think texture is more appropriate given how far from CBD I am. Tweed and Flannels are more consistent for me, and I think textured ties play into that. Also, summer will likely consist of mostly chinos and cotton/linen jackets.

The grenadine and neat can cover for me when I need to do CBD. Otherwise I've textured ties for the tweed. Shantung standard rep can work with nearly ALL of my summer fits ideally.

At least these were my thoughts.
