Hi. I couldn't find an Introductions sub-forum, so I figured General was the next best thing. But I've been wrong before.

I'm not very familiar with fashion. My only fashion-type experience was working for American Eagle for less than a year. I liked their jeans and socks, but not too much else. Now here we are about 9 or so years later and I'm a Navy veteran, slightly overweight (6'1", 240lbs), bogged down with school work, and at the end of a divorce that's lasted about a year and a half. I either have no image, or if I do, it's bland and somewhat repulsive.

Over the last few days, I've been researching like a madman about fashion. I started with shoes. The one wearable set of Oxfords I have are falling apart. They're not a good pair, I've realized. I went to a few clothing stores like Kohl's, where I discovered that department store shoe lineups are... well... "disposable," to be polite. And to be impolite, they're just plain crap. I took my search online and realized it is quite difficult to find a good pair of dress shoes for under $200, which I'm okay with. Initially it was kind of a punch in the face, but I decided to see it the same way I see car and truck parts (one of my many part-times jobs, I'm an auto mechanic) - good parts aren't cheap, but you'll only have to buy them once (given they're taken care of... yada yada).

I'm an active member on the F150 Forum and in school for my computer science degree. I love my full-time job and its growth potential, but I look like a bag of ass because I barely have anything in my closet and I'm sure my coworkers have noticed, although they're nice and don't tell me to face. They probably talk about it when I'm not around, though. It's called manners.

Here's my meager collection.
1. A single pair of black Oxfords.
2. Two pairs of brown wingtip Oxfords, one of which is from Payless and should really be thrown out because it's separating everywhere.
-- 2.1. The other pair is too small and I didn't return it in time. So really, I have only one pair of dress shoes.
3. A single pair of brown "dress" pants (from Dickies) that are shot and need replacement.
4. Several button-down shirts that do not fit properly at all, so I only wear and rotate about five of them.
5. A single pair of fitting blue jeans.
6. Gym clothes. No real reason to get into those here.
7. Some special-purpose clothing, like hiking clothes. I'm not worried about fashion when I go hiking / backpacking / camping. Then, it's about function and survival.

Wow. It's even more embarrassing to see it listed here.

I'm not very good at coordinating outfits whatsoever. That's why I don't buy clothes much. I'm "scared" to do it, because I worry I'll put something together that I think looks okay and ends up making everyone else laugh at me because it went horribly wrong.

Okay, that's enough. I'm going to go back to reading many threads here and trying to learn. You all seem to purchase from brands and from places I've never heard of, and I'm happy to see new stores (and get an idea of what my budget should be).
