Good Clothes at Full Price

A lot of people talk about buying this or that only when on sale. Since sales are a bit slow right now what are some brands or things that you don't mind paying full retail for or things that rarely go on sale that are good to get?

i dont mind paying full retail for good quality merchandise that is known to go on sale rarely if ever.

nothing much, really. strictly a sales shopper.

I think the only things I paid full retail for this year were: 1 custom fit Land's end shirt, and 1 J. Press grenadine tie. And maybe one or two pairs of socks.

Other than that, the only time I could see myself paying full retail would be when I'm travelling and realized that I forgot something....

I'm with NoVaguy. At this point, I don't need much, so I almost never pay retail for RTW. The most recent item I bought at retail, if I recall correctly, was a $25 linen-cotton shirt from Old Navy, of all places. My next full-price purchase will probably be a grenadine from Mulberrywood.

I think also bought some silk cufflinks from j. press when i bought the tie. and i think that was a silk square, not socks. but nowadays, most everything is purchased on sale, from ebay or from an internet discounter.

Socks and underwear, very occasionally a shirt or something I just can't live without. Its not that I'm cheap or can't buy some things at full price, I just love the feeling of getting a great deal. Not sure why, but a $1,000 jacket for $100 is more exciting than the exact same jacket at full price. Some get thrills from paying a lot, I get it from feeling like I'm ripping off the store when I hand them my credit card. Come to think of it, all my favorite clothes are ones I got at significant discount, whereas the ones I paid full price, that I had to have then, generally gather dust. Bizarre, isn't it?

Not to be a smart-ass, or to state the obvious, but anything you like (or need) bespoke or MTM is worth the full retail for not only the presumed quality, but for the exact fit you will (hopefully) have.

I noticed this forum has made me into a "never pay retail" shopper. I was out shopping today and found a shirt and sweater combo that I loved and looked great, but I didn't buy because it was full price. I now think, "$100 for poor quality cashmere sweater or $150 for Lance's sweaters."

But certainly people do it... even in sale periods, as I have almost everything I need I wait for the sale periods to buy what is missing... is hard for me because I wear a 48 European this is 38R and a 9 shoe and those are the most common sizes used in Europe, so It is sometimes hard to get what I want in my size on sale period...

Sometimes I have even seen people paying full price for shirts when other similar quality shirts are on sale at 50% or even 75% off...

I used to only buy clothes when on sale, or second-hand. Slowly, my finances have been improving. I had problems with the sleeve length of my shirts (I have long arms for Spanish standards), so I started to buy muy shirts MTM (which implies full price; you can have nice MTM shirts of nice Italian or Swiss cotton cloth made for around USD 130 here in Spain, with your initials on the chest, which is actually very common in Spain; I almost never see that abroad, maybe it is considered to be bad taste...). Next, I started to have my suits made by a tailor (full price, of course). The next step was the shoes: it is not that I do not buy shoes on sale, but when I see some that I like, I also buy them at retail price: shoe shops can be quite exasperating during the first days of the sales period, especially when you have to try several ones before finding a pair that fits, which is often my case (I guess I have quite strange feet). I also sometimes buy jeans and other things that are strictly size-dependent at retail price, so as not to risk not finding my size, if I see a pair of jeans that I really like.
Also, it is nicer doing shopping when the shops are not so crowded.
On the other hand, things like ties, underwear, socks, pullowers, sport shoes, etc. I almost only buy when on sale.
