Hello. I'm looking for high quality tie brands wich offers classic & timeless approach. I'm thinking about getting some solid ties first (preferable in silk). If you have any recommendation please feel free.

In terms of size. I'm a fairly skinny guy, but I like wider ties. I'm not sure if I should go for 8 cm or 9,5 cm+?

Just buy anything that isn't loud or lairy. No satin silks, though. Grenadine is your best bet in nice neutral colours and patterns.

Ye. Good advice. Now days it's trendy with small ties, However I found myself to like 9.5 cm. Historically speaking wider ties have been popular, but time have shifted. Maybe a Good middle ground for "classic & timless" ties would be 8 cm?

So the question is should you build your tie collection around your own taste or more aimed towards Timeless and classic style.

Thinking about getting at least 1 hermes tie to my collection. Since they're fairly expensive, I would love to get a solid tie, but then again hermes are known for their patterns.... Would you say Hermes are worth the hype tho?

Haven't heard as much about charvet. Their price range is fairly simillar to Hermes. What makes charvet ties great?
Drake's is absolutely the first name that comes to mind. Their name is practically synonymous with great ties.

I'm also a big fan of Bigi, I have a couple of nice ties from them.

I've seen plenty post about drake ties. How can I justify getting one over the iconic Hermes tie?

Haven't heard about Bigi brand. Need to check them out for sure! :)

Go to the Charvet store in Paris on Place Vendome. If you're into classic menswear this store is a must and you can't walkout without buying something.

I don't own any Hermes ties but my boss wears them all the time.

Ye It's something I've been getting into lately. Haha I imagine that I would walk out spending way too much....

Ah. Hermes ties are pretty iconic to many people and recognisable. I guess I should go to a store and try one too see if I can justify spending 200$ on a tie. However If you take care of a tie I guess it's kind of a long term investment. I already have some Italian luxury ties from a brand called Pietro Balldini if you heard about it :)`?

Brooks Brothers, O'Connell's Clothing, J. Press, Rooster, vintage Lands' End, old Huntington Clothiers, Andover Shop, etc. all have great vintage ties on eBay. You can find some new or slightly worn ties this way and save yourself a fortune. There is nothing worse than purchasing a great expensive tie and getting a stain on it, as they don't clean well with dry cleaning. I prefer 3 1/4 or 3 1/2", as you can always wear them when they become either thinner or wider.

I have 3 Hermes ties, they were all thrifted for a couple of bucks each. All 3 could pass off as new.

You don't need to buy retail to dress well; eBay & thrift shops are your friends.

Not a big fan of silk print ties or often called novelty ties. However, I do love Jacquard weave ties and they hold a knot much better for me.

How did you get these perfect tie knots with your Hermes ties? I've never gotten something to look this good on them. My four in hands always end up looking tubular. Is this an Old Bertie knot? Thank you!
