I bought a Ralph Lauren Purple Label white linen pocket square for $24 (inclusive of tax) on sale as a gift to a friend who really wanted to a good first square for his graduation. This seems a bit steep for me, but having the brand is nice when you're giving a gift.

The sewing is a little different on this one. How good a square is this, if anyone has one? How good a buy do you suppose this was?

For comparison, for example, Land's End has a pocket square for the same price, but the linen looks less fine:

I have the same pocket square and like it more than the brooks brothers linen squares I have. The RLPL one seems to have more heft to it.

The hem is drawn rather than rolled. I prefer drawn hems on linen PS's.

Tomasso, why do you prefer them this way? I saw them on a Polo salesman and they looked different. What are the squares you showed?

Also, how do you tell the linen quality in a linen square? Basically, you feel the linen and see how it'd hold up in a point fold?

I'm not understanding the point of drawn edges over rolled edges on linen squares either. Is drawn just folded over and sewn? If so what's so nice about that?

They are for hankerchiefs. Pocket squares should have rolled edges.

p.s. I thought Josepidal was back

Is there a rule on this or are you just makin' it up?

Rule or not, rolled edges look far better imo.
