Good Boston area mens clothing retailers?

Can anyone suggest any good Boston area clothing stores in the boston area? I'm sick to death of the J. Crew/Banana Republic/Brooks Brothers/etc. that seem to predominate this area. Are there no cool shops carrying the good designers? Barneys and Needless Markup, I mean Neiman Marcus, are fine, but expensive and impersonal. I'd love to learn of some new places, and any suggestions will be most appreciated.

Louis, Boston is a great store. Drinkwater's is in the Boston area, and from the postings of merchandise on this site seems well worth a visit. Also, the Filene's Basement at Downtown Crossing often has great clothes from Louis, Barney's, Bergdorf's etc.

Louis-Boston and Drinkwaters but they will hardly be inexpensive.

Compared to their respective Manhattan locations, the shoe departments of the local Saks, NM and Barneys are as sad as sad gets.

I'll check out Drinkwaters, thanks for the tip.
what I'm really looking for, though, is a shop like the ones in NYC etc. I don't need suits and french cuffs, for instance, but rather I'd like to find a good source of casual clothing. I'd love a new everday, throw it on with jeans, blazer and shirt, for instance. Or, some "thin" ties. that kind of thing. Instead, what I find here in Boston are all the usuals...no new designers, nothing that special.

Any suggestions short of heading south to NY?

I have been a Louis customer for years and I consider it to be one of the best stores for menswear in the nation. I have really received great service, the tailoring is excellent and the product selection is tops.

Second Time Around and The Closet, both on Newbury St., sell quite good "gently used" merchandise from mid- to high-end brands. The Closet tends to be much better for men's clothes, but there was a cashmere Kiton jacket in STA that I was just dying to buy (wrong size, unfortunately). Only takes a second to check both.
Also, Filene's just opened a new store on Boyleston St.

Good attire in Boston is Red Sox cap, Derek Jeter polyester jersey, Reebok sneakers with springs and tapered down LEE jeans.
All of this typical Boston attire is available at fine local retailers.

Perhaps some of you Cantabs might know what store this is, but the last time I was walking around Cambridge, there was a mens clothing store that sold Paraboot shoes, and tailored clothing for younger trendier guys. Some of it was bad (IMHO), and some of it looked pretty good. Reasonably priced as well.
