Golf get-up with street inflection

Not a golfer, but have found myself having to golf with the boss and other folks in the industry. I know I have to cop those Nike golfing sneakers, but what else to wear on the course? Don't want to come off as a bourgeois country club prick. Posting in Streetwear and Denim because ideally, I'd like to put these clothes to use after I walk off the course and not get ****** kicked in the subway.

I would suggest a J. Lindeberg polo (I usually hate his stuff, but he makes some decent looking, slim polos) and either cargo kinee shorts or slimmer, flat front pants with some subtle pattern - looks decent on the links and off. In the first combination, make the shirt dark with accent piping, in the latter, made the shirt medium colored with constrast piping and keep the pants dark.

Slim polo? Well, it is not really slim. At least, not on me.

I tried a small on and it was really boxy. For comparison, Lacoste size 3 or Paul Smith Red Earl small polos aren't boxy at all on me.

Perhaps I didn't try the good J. Lindeberg polos, but that was like three weeks ago.

check the dress code. most courses require a collared shirt, hence the popularity of polos. some courses require pants (as opposed to shorts), but no jeans, so chinos are the natural choice.

I'd recommend flatfront chinos and any slim fitting polo. Tuck or untucked is up to you. Wear the golf shoes of your choice, but they go back into your bag when you hit the street/subway...

I appreciate the advice. Think I may do a Situationist International take on golf attire: black slim-fitting polo, black flat front chinos, black golf shoes. Hamlet on the green or some such. Or not. My instinct about this was way off, was thinking pantaloons, sweater vest, floppy hat. Whoa, just found this: http://www.urban-golf.org/

Go for the recent Pringle looks. Slim patterned trousers, sweater vests, open collared shirt or polo underneath. Jesper Parnevik's sported some great outfits too.

Unless they're really broken in, jeans would be pretty uncomfortable. Esp if you wear them slim/tight.

Where do you play in the Philly area? Private course dress codes usually disallow denim.

LOL, you should probably worry less about your outfit and more about your swing! I'm not trying to make a serious golfer out of you or anything, it's just that golf is a VERY frustrating game if you can't keep your ball in play (for all parties: you, your group, and those behind you).

), jeans aren't cool at most clubs. And you'll want something lighter. Comfort is important.

Personally, when I play golf, I give up being cool (it's hard for me to do, but somehow...). Light cotton poplin pants, comfortable belt, golf-collar shirt (prefer pique to mercerised cotton). If I wanted to look more badass, I'd just opt for darker colors/patterns.

EDIT: I'm not saying buy an outfit from the pro shop. Golf-brand golf clothes are usually cut HUGE. I don't understand how it's easier to swing when your sleeves are that big.

Or you could go for the Nike/Tiger Woods collection. The fabrics are generally very nice, and a nicely fitting red shirt with dark trous still trumps most everyone on the links.

But yeah, work on your game.
