I recently purchased a pair of onyx set in gold cufflinks, they resemble the following, but double sided instead of the tbar.

Since I dont own a gold watch and don't plan on getting one any time soon. Im wondering if it's appropriate to wear them with a stainless steel watch.

I decided a while ago that that rule was one I wasn't going to follow - I mix silver, gold and steel in my accessories. ftw.

+1. My wedding ring is rose gold/silver Mokume, and I always wear a silver ring I've worn since I was pre-teen. No way in hell I'm ever going to conform to this by default. If it looks good, do it.

When I dress for black tie, I wear plain gold cuff links and a stainless watch (yea, yea, I know, not supposed to even wear any watch, but this one is sleek enough and it's a PP...) and wouldn't think twice about it. Same goes for watch/belt buckle. The only metals I say need to match are cuff links and studs when doing formal. The links and studs themselves don't need to match (my links are plain gold, my studs are onyx/MOP) but the background metals do.
