Going to Chicago for a night or two after Christmas. Anyone recommend a place for cheap that is somewhat close to Michigan Ave? I searched hotels.com and it seems like the going rate is about 80.

How cheap are you talking man? I know Kwilk is looking for someone to mop up his 3rd chin during christmas dinner, and he'd put you up for free.

80 is dirt cheap. $200+ for downtown was normal before all the bad stuff went down with $180's being a typical sale or last minute price.

Priceline.com. You can choose the section of Chicago you want now. River North/Loop, South, West, North, etc.

I stayed at The Omni (676 N Michigan) which was all suites for $80 last weekend. The going rate is $200-250

80 bucks for a block away from Saks. That's a killer deal.

(Parking is $50/night)

If you are eligible, corporate rates downtown are usually around 135-175.

Bring some footwear that will hold up to the weather or that you don't mind trashing. I was downtown today and the sidewalks were horrible.

Yes and no....

I have gotten rooms at the Omni for $80 for years off bidding on Priceline.... For the price and the location it's great if you're not from Chicago.... Nice enough where you feel like you're at a good downtown hotel, but not great..... The bed sucks, the rooms all smell like cigs, etc. etc.

I really hate staying down on Michigan Ave., all yokel tourists, and you'll end up being treated like one....
