Going to Chicago; Where should I shop?

I'm going to Chicago for a 3 day weekend and I've never been before. Anyone have advice on where to shop for new and vintage clothing? Also, if anyone has an extra ticket for Elvis Perkins at Schuba's tomorrow night I would love to buy it from you.

Thanks in advance

To be honest, shopping in Chicago is not good-- the fact that Jake gets any mention proves this. Last time I went there they had 1 pair of ugly Nudies in 3 sizes and some stupid Marc by Marc Jacob sweaters. The scene out there is Northface, UGGs and ****** fashion house 'designer' labels hawked by all the big department stores. The streetwear brands we covet here on SF are not what's being sold in Chicago..

I might stop at St. Alfred's for one of their Bulls t'shirts if you're a fan of the team, and can get away with a Superfuture hiphop style t-shirt, but I wouldn't be interested in the rest of their crap.

The food is great though. Lots to see, the city has a lot of charachter.

I believe there's some nice vintage stores around, but I don't spend much time shopping in Chicago so I can't name them.

That's because you didn't know where to go...I just mentioned the best stores for shopping!

I've been to 4/6 and was not impressed. Granted the stores you listed may not have big fashion labels like the department stores, instead they act like G-Star is some super hip boutique brand... You're not finding BoO, W+H, etc. out there (or atleast I haven't seen it)

Being that you're in Wicker Park, I am sure you have to have a good idea on a vintage store or two. I believe there's one out there

Yeah, I do. I'll agree with you as far as online shopping, I only use those stores for trying things on these days because taxes are just way too expensive in the city...

+1. Chicago sucks for "SF Approved" SW&D clothing. MC, it's not so bad.

This. Not even vintage, but there are a lot of very small stores with a decent set of clothes. Nothing huge, but you can find a diamond in the rough if you're walking around casually and not hunting for a certain item.

Hejfina has a lot of great SW&D stuff that gets love here: ndg, apc, eg, etc.

I agree that Jake isn't great.

MMJ, check my sig for a map that has some places in Chicago in it. Needs more though so if you do find some good stores while you're there please add them (its a public map).

I think that Gamma Player on Division St. should also get a mention. They tend to carry some really cool stuff, although the stock can be a bit limited. The Jil Sander and Prada stores also might be worth checking out if you plan to hit up Barneys. Whereas Chicago may not be New York or L.A. However anyone who says shopping sucks in Chicago either isn't trying hard enough or needs to explore more.

Agree on Belmont Army. My buddy is one of the store owners and carries many SF and SUFU brands. Crate, Shades of Greigh, phillip lim, lvc, and honestly the best selection of street shoes in chi-town

then you haven't looked very hard! out of the west (on armitage) has a nice stash of deadstock lvc, but you gotta ask for it because it's locked inside some of the cabinets. i was gonna keep this a secret, but i am good on jeans and thought i would be nice and share...
