the location has a RL and zegna store next to each other, so I will be able to try both on.

I like a slim suit. Im young, Im in shape, and I kinda feel like the big peaked lapels are my dads suits...

I understand these are 2 brand that really nail that style?

would anyone here rate 1 over the other?

as my first GOOD suit(if I can call these that), what should I be looking for? shoulder fit is paramount I understand. what else should be running through my mind as I shop?

You may find this post helpful. Note that at the end, there are links to other posts that you may find interesting.

Before you go off and buy an RLBL suit, I encourage you to think about where you would wear such a garment. RLBL has a very striking, modern sihlouette, and it's not easily pulled off in most environments. I like it, but it's a very specific style with a very specific purpose. You may want to consider not just whether it makes you look good, but whether it will make you look appropriately well-dressed for most of the environments you're likely to find yourself in.

Enjoy your time shopping.

well the purpose of the suit is.... everything.

If Im doing anything that requires a suit, wedding, work presentation, interview, holiday dress up... this will be the suit. atleast for the moment. Obviously I hope to expand, but Im presently in grad school, interning in a month, and I need a suit I can stand infront of a fortune 50 executive and look the part.

I realize its not the most professional suit, but I feel like it represents my style more than the fuller suits. I think it is still acceptable in a nice charcoal color and nice shoes.

If you're looking for versatility, Ralph Lauren's Black Label shouldn't be for you. The world also has more than just full, frumpy suits, and overly modern slim ones. I encourage you to wait a bit before you buy a suit, and let your tastes develop. It might be useful to spend six months here, reading and researching as much as you can, before you spend between $750 - $1,500 on the wrong silhouette. I have a strong suspicion that you'll regret your eagerness later if you don't.

In my opinion, RLBL works well for certain holiday parties, and perhaps certain bars. It would be out of place at a work environment.

Remember that dressing well isn't just about communicating your own personal sense of style, but also fitting in nicely to the environment. There are some suits that are - to some degree - "all purpose." The RLBL Anthony cut is about the furtherest you can get from this.

Though impossible to recommend fits, I love Zegna Milano cut. I also own the old RLBL model suit. Yes it has a low rise, but not hilariously low. If I were chosing between the two, I'd go for Zegna milano. RLBL still normally has quite narrow lapels, which is going out of style now.

waiting isnt an option. I dont feel confortable standing in front of a room in my oversized $200 suit from mens warehouse that fits like a potato sack and looks like one too.

Ive looked at many suits, and if professional means nothing beyond a 4" drop, and a lapel that touches the shoulder joint... Im not sure I want to wear suits to work...

Ive read numerous posts on here of people saying that RLBL suits would be appropriate in the workplace so long as you dont pair it with flashy accents.

if there are brands that can offer a 6-8" drop off the rack, high arm holes, and a modest notched lapel, Id be interested to hear of them.

There are plenty that offer a 6" drop. That's standard.

RLBL is 7" drop.

Not sure on Zegna MIlano. I should also mention at retail this costs around a grand more than RLBL.

What about a Polo suit? I sort of agree that RLBL will stand out a bit. Its styling is rather unique.

They make everything from drop 4 to drop 10. Now finding the higher drop stuff in shops isn't always easy. It also depends on your size. Italian 50 is most commonly drop 7. Larger sizes are the ones you might find with portly drops.

But this thread is all arguing about the sex of angels. OP go into the shops and try the things on.

curious to know why all of the sudden you disapprove of RLBL styling?

if going back into your history, in this thread:

http://www.styleforum.net/t/239390/please-critique-fit-of-this-rlbl-anthony-suit

post 14 you say:

"If you want the RLBL silhouette, which is a very British, sharp, modern suit"

so i ask you, whats wrong with an RLBL suit for a young man who intends to use it as his go to suit? if you claimed that its a very british, sharp, modern suit, wouldnt that make it perfect?

I don't have experience with the Zegna suit, but I like the RLBL quite a bit. Get it if you like it, particularly if you are young and in shape.

You are asking advice from a small, though enlightened, niche. 99% of the population will have a hard time noticing differences in suits. Just look around--terrible suits are everywhere and no one cares.
