So I was in Walgreens today and this middle aged lady was being checked out in front of me. She purchases 3 or 4 of those "reusable" grocery bags. She then gets a pack of cigarettes. The clerk puts the bags and the cigarettes into a plastic bag. The lady then mentions how she has one of those reusable bags at the bottom of her purse that she just can't get out. To top it off, she drives off by herself in a Ford Expedition Triton V8.

Umm... She probably isn't aware of what the term "environmentally friendly" means.

Some people just don't understand these things.

I would want to smack her if I saw her.

That sucks but it's better than nothing. At least she is thinking about possibly making an effort in the future...maybe...if it's convenient.

That kills me on so many levels - the checkout person should have known better, too!

what cant you understand? maybe she was purchasing them for someone else, maybe she wanted to use them for another purpose, who knows, why not just give them the benefit of the doubt that people have their reasons. she certainly didnot proclaim to you that she was going green, all you saw were her actions.
does that warrant you wanting to smack her?

You may be right here, I might be mistaken, but I read it like this: it sounds like she would like to use the bag she has, but emptying her purse is too great a chore, thus she buys more bags.

I could be wrong, though.

That is what I thought and she also mentioned to clerk how she was going to use them and the clerk said that most people leave them in their car.

if that's the case, well, let her buy more bags. my comment is more in regards to this:
if you see me eat a bowl of fruit in the morning and a big mac at lunch with a diet coke, would you want to smack me because my actions show contradictions in what i eat?

my disappointment here is not towards MJK (his was just a comment on a what he saw) but i am a little ticked off at the prevalence of certain nastygratuitous statements affecting groupthink around here these days like
wanting to smack someone for being contradictory
certain dressed people or overweight people need to be gunned down or run over
and yes, i will name off certain names, like Conne and LabelKing who has made these types of statements (and no resentment towards them, i like Conne and appreciate LK's presence around here) but dont appreciate their flippant statements like these (hopefully, i truly hope they dont mean it) it puts a bad spin on sf and im just stating what i ve been seeing these days.

Sho,

I'm a fan and think very highly of you, but if you're going to contradict me, I'm gonna have to smack you.

Best regards,

T-Bone
