I love reading about the Mafia. I always thought of John Gotti as nicely dressed, as most the public does. But look at his picutes again I still think he dressed well for a Mobb boss I don't think the attention to his dress was warrented, as it was front page making news in the mid and late 80's. Sorry about quality.Best pictures I could find.

My recollection is that he bragged to reporters about the cost of his clothes, and they would write about his "$300 hand painted ties."

Not the same as the quality of his overall look. I've never read a reporter qualified to judge. The writers who are qualified tend to be clothing lovers who happen to do some writing - and they're not covering the crime scene.

it was b/c:
1. normal mobs guys wore velour track suits so anything above this was good
2. he's a good looking guy which helps
3. he wore Brioni which can flatter anyone (witness: Trump, Donald)

combine all that and, while not the best dressed person in NYC, he was head and shoulders above the mafia people.
