Just found and purchased a vintage, dramatically marked glen plaid sportcoat. Label says "Glenwick" and that it was made in the U.S. So far I note there's no reference to that label in this entire forum via "Search." Is anyone familiar with that name? I'm thinking it's not one of these former local or regional menswear stores because those tend to give the city. Jacket looks very well made. I know many ways of looking the name up but wanted to try this esteemed forum at this time.

If it looks well made, the styling appeals to you, and you like the pattern/color, what utility will you derive from determining its provenance? If it turns out to have been made expressly for JC Penney, will that stop you from wearing it? They're clothes, not garage sale paintings that may be Rembrandts. Don't take them so seriously, and enjoy your coat..

Tsk.... Wasn't asking for someone's opinion why I should or should not be interested in some information on an article of clothing....
If someone knows something about Glenwick please respond. There's an awful lot involved with menswear such as history, social aspects, commercial aspects, etc. which some of us are, fortunately, interested in. That's what makes a forum like this far so extremely fascinating. If you just care to go out and purchase the first thing that fits you or which you feel looks okay I'm surprised you're here, though there's room for all kinds, I guess.
Best wishes.

I've seen the odd Glenwick jacket on thrifting jaunts as well and am curious about the maker.
