Glaser Bags - which one?

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum (glad I found it!) and looking for a little advice. I am wanting to "upgrade" my large Saddleback leather bag and was looking at the Glaser choices. I work in the finance/investment industry (yes, still have a job for now) and I meet with company officers so I want something a little more sophisticated looking that will travel well.

Of the Glaser options, Flaptop or Deal Bag, which do you prefer? Since I travel a lot I need space for a 15" laptop, a larger Tumi portfolio, iPod, Blackberry, 2" thick binder, etc. The large version of the Saddleback is too large, and while I like to rough look at times, it just looks a little out of place and will not stand up very well unless very full. The Glaser looks very nice but I think the thing I will miss a little is no outside pocket for the BB, for example.

Any suggestions/advice on which model you prefer?

Thanks in advance for the help!!

Okay - one more time

I have seen pics of these bags but does anyone have a pic with a person in the photo - or something to provide perspective? I'm going to call Glaser this week and talk to him about my requirements. However, just not sure how it looks in real life - tough for me to buy a $1000 bag without ever seeing one in person.

Thanks!

I own a 5" deal bag and it is fantastic. I like their burnished chestnut saddle leather best, it seems like it will age more distinctively than their other leathers and has a beautiful finish to it. Plus Myron Glaser is a great guy.

If you have to carry the various things you mentioned, you may find the 6" deal bag a better size. There are actually "outside pockets" on the bag that are accessible even if the bag is closed. They are between the flaps with the handles and the inner compartment of the bag. You could easily keep a BB there. I keep a handkerchief and my phone there. It's quite safe since it's not obvious that there is a space to keep things there in the first place. I suggest you grab one of the zip up mini-bags (called Insiders) as well to keep your cabling together.

FYI I'm 5'9" and my black Rimowa is carry-on size. The 5" Deal Bag is still sizeable but will just about fit under the seat on the plane.

They also have a smaller bag called the Daychest which I was sorely tempted to get though it may not be big enough for you.

Perfect - thanks! Great pics. You and I are about the same height so these are very helpful.

I was looking on the site - it looks like the step up from the 5" is now a 7". Obviously no taller, just wider.

That's a great looking bag - congrats on a very smart purchase.

Oddly enough I am considering 2 very different avenues - the Filson canvas computer bag or the Glaser. WAY different, I know. The Filson is a very nice price point and has a great reputation for value. The Glaser, well, it's incredible and will last a lifetime. Just have to decide if I want to spend that kind of cash....

the 6" deal bag option is not listed on their website but it is still an available option (Myron made me a custom one in a color that looks like cognac)

the new espresso is simply spectacular and I would HIGHLY recommend you get one in that color
