I support the protest and think it's a shame to see Abercrombie Kids on The Row. That said, a bunch of nerds dressing like they stepped out of a Dick Tracey comic is just absurd to me. Just as stupid as the Tweed Run. Hipsters masquerading as iGents masquerading as established and respected Row customers.

If anything, a bunch of people in costumes takes legitimacy away from their argument and, to the outside world, makes it look like the people supporting Saville Row are comically backwards and outdated.

Unfortunately most of the people who could lend the most powerful support to a "Preserve Saville Row" protest are kinda huge fans of capitalism and the free market...

Looks like fun. I would join them if I were there. They won't win in the end, but still looks like fun.

As someone whose first stop in london was to leer at the windows of savile row, I was pretty upset when I heard this news.

As someone who knows even every single beatles back track and has a million bootleg session tapes, I'm really heart broken to find out that this is happening at No 3.

According to the article, few, if any of the protesters were actually in Saville Row tayloring. SF must have been to busy to take part. Now that would have been a proper Row protest...

please, most of SF was too busy looking for a $300 staple corneliani at saks off fifth.

Savile Row suits at 3k gbp+...not many

Well, some iGents who frequent SR houses are doing a lot of damage by displaying their ill-fitting drape suits on the Internet. The results are, in short, all over the place. Many would do wisely to buy that Corneliani and spend the difference on a gym membership.

Though the protest is as much about cultural heritage as it is about the clothes. e.g. You wouldn't need to live in a castle to protest about one being knocked down.

On the other hand, with the rent in Savile Row as high as it is, it barely makes any sense for smaller businesses to cling to the area. What is the point of spending so much on a suit when such a large proportion of the price is simply going towards the cost of the premises instead of towards actual product quality?

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
