I think a small black and white gingham sportcoat would be nice.

As an aside, to those who are new to mens clothing, be mindful that the hourglass tailoring on this example will not work with every body type. A well tailored jacket or suit should work with a mans body contours and not fight against them. Same rules apply when considering piqued lapels vs. notched lapels, lapel widths, double or single breasted, shirt collar heights, tie widths, etc.
This example pictured also features patch pockets which may not work for everyone.
Beware of these balancing details and the intended use of the jacket when making decisions on purchases.

In my mind, the following two are true gingham sport coats. But yay, both to your houndstooth/gingham SC and these.

So gingham means cotton? I see. Any word on the cantrelli quality? Is it worth the $325 I paid?

I think originally, gingham the material was cotton in checkered/plaid patterns, although gingham the pattern need not be just cotton (see above examples - they are wool/cashmere/silk blends in gingham pattern). I believe the terms are used to refer either (or both), depending on the context. The Cantarelli looks good, especially at that price point.
