GILT - FALSE REPRESENTATION OF PRODUCT

So I thought i would finally give GILT a try. Needed a new pair of jeans and favor made the in USA variety. So found some Levi's Vintage Jeans 1947 501s on GILT that clearly state on the website Origin: USA.

I received the jeans today and they are made in Turkey; last i checked that is not in the USA.

I have emailed Gilt to see what they will do about this - since my purchase was stated as non refundable etc.

On another note - while i was looking for Jeans i saw their Tumi collection (this should have tipped me off); nearly half of the Tumi line they are selling is NOT something you would find in a Tumi Retail Store; what looked like lesser quality material on existing designs but quoted at the RETAIL price of the real deal models found in the Tumi Retail Store.

I know the latter event around selling knock off versions has been discussed before. I don't care if they are licensed, created, made by Tumi; how can you claim retail price for lesser quality products? It's completely unethical.

This will be my last interaction with GILT - frankly i hope they close down. This is not a business model that treats customers with due respect and also diminishes the brand value of what they are selling.

Wow talk about a rant.

Just to be clear - I empathize. In fact, the same thing happened to me at Gilt. I purchased a Calvin Klein Collection 'Marianna' shirt that was stated to be 'Made in Italy'. When I received it, it said 'Made in Tunisia'. Obviously, I was less than pleased (that is an understatement). I emailed Gilt, and within 15 mins got a reply asking for a picture of the label, which I promptly sent. In less than 1 hour, I got an email stating that they were going to give me a refund, and that they were very sorry. Customer Service was actually really good.

Gilt does seem to mess up a bit, but as long as they fix it it's all good.

Thanks - i'm hoping they make good on my issue as well - it's just a sad because little things go a long way especially when you are pure online retailer - you need an excellent model because of all the competition.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I would be upset as well. I've purchased my fair share of items on Gilt (Noir member now = gave them too much of my money), so I always a) add to cart to ensure it's in stock, b) research the heck out of the item elsewhere for price, details, alternative pictures, and c) approach with caution when it says "Imported" (could mean a lot of things) and certainly do not buy if the product description says "Made exclusively for Gilt" (which to my mind = factory outlet store quality/Made in China or India).

Gilt is all over the place. Some of their deals are okay, like the rare RLBL suits or Hickey suits, which they don't seem to have much of anymore.

One thing I noticed about them is they mark up their retail so their sale prices aren't as good as they appear to be. Also, I agree with item misrepresentation, I've also had that happen. The nice thing is that they changed their policy so you can get an actual refund now and not just store credit.
