Gift cards for Neiman Marcus (shoes or suit?)

It's for $500. I can either buy a pair of decent dress shoes from Ferragamos or save up to purchase a ZZegna (half canvassed) suit.

I can't decide but I'm leaning towards the suit, considering I'd like to buy my first canvassed (high quality) DESIGNER suit from Neiman Marcus but I wonder if I should just buy shoes and save for a Ralph Lauren Black Label Anthony suit or skip the shoes and get the ZZegna (Etro is fused, and Armani Collezioni/E. Zegna doesn't fit me quite as well as Z Zegna and is way too exensive).

Thoughts? Thank you

NM doesn't sell Z Zegna as far as I can tell. If you want an RLBL suit, save for that. Not sure if NM sells them, but if you can use a NM gift card at Bergdorf Goodman, they do sell them, and had some on sale.

Thanks for the reply. I tried on a few ZZegna suits at my Neiman Marcus so I'd know they would fit.

Have you tried on RLBL? It's not for everyone... Plus, I'm beginning to dislike the narrow lapels.

Guess you learn something new every day, I didn't realize they sold them there (never seen them in the LA, Chicago or Boston stores).

They're not the best made suits, and if you're looking at that vs. RL at retail, there's no question, RL is worth a few hundred more. If it's RL at retail or ZZ on sale, tougher call. But I'd call BG in NY and ask, or else wait and see what you can find at the end of the NM sale (may be able to get real Zegna for a grand or so).

BL and ZZ are two suits I can wear OTR with no alterations, so I imagine if one is a good fit on the OP the other will be pretty close as well.

I agree TimelesStyle. If I was going to drop a grand on a designer suit. I'd like it to be the best and I always think of Black Lable before Z Zegna as far as quality goes.

The only shoes that seem good to buy are Ferragamo and Gucci.

I've never found Gucci shoes I liked and most of them are pretty terribly made. Ferragamo is a mixed bag, but as long as they're a pretty classic style you can't go wrong with the non-Studio lines, which I can't imagine NM sells. What do you need more, a suit or pair of shoes?

Isn't Z Zegna the line made in Mexico? As far as I know it's not fully canvassed. Does your Neiman Marcus sell any English shoes? The only Ferragamos worth considering are from the Tramezza line.

Thanks for the info Matt. I'll check out the Tramezza line.

I just looked at my wardrobe. And I have a dozen dress shoes but only 4 dress suits (two of them are from Express and I hate the wool/spandex blend/fusing, the other 2 are from Jos A Bank, which I stay away from since I've been on this forum). I love the way Z Zegna and RL Black Label suits feels and looks on me, now I just have to decide which colors to get.

So far my suits are plain black and gray. Since these brands are expensive I wanna make sure I buy a quality suit that last for a least a couple of years that I can constantly rotate through the years.

What city are you in/what size suits are you? It sounds like you'll get a lot more mileage out of a good suit right now. Does your NM have the RL suits and, if so, do they have any on sale? If not, as I said earlier, call Bergdorfs in NYC. I was there a few weeks ago and they were starting their sale. NM owns them so perhaps you can use the gift card there as well.

And ZZ isn't a bad suit, it's just not as nice. However, no offense, given what you've got right now it would still be a major improvement. You can't go wrong with solid navy or grey (though these are less frequently on sale), but nothing wrong with a classic stripe or check, just don't go too crazy.
