I think its nothing to do with the broguing its merely just buckshot ie a shot in the foot so i suppose it can be shot on any type of shoe. I do agree with you though it does look better on the brogue rather than the plain boot as a visual effect to my eye anyways.

Not to my liking but I suppose it will appeal to some. It looks far worse on the boot to be sure.

this. Wouldn't wear them but there's always something charming or fascinating about something that comes out of left field that way.

Where the brogue looked like abstract brogueing the Chelsea looks like you just shot yourself in the foot which is slightly less artistic. Horses for courses I suppose.
