I'm thinking of buying this Gieves wool/silk overcoat for winter. What do you think of the quality? I only have black, blue and brown overcoats, how versatile is this in grey?

It looks very English and military to me, I have a G&H tweed jacket, but I do not wear it often. What's your opinion?

Not Gieves & Hawkes. "Gieves", their trendy line. More cheaply made. Jacket looks OK, but don't buy it thinking it's going to be of the best quality.

Thanks, I know it's their younger RTW label (I'm in my 30s).
I need something both classic and modern, decent quality for the price (I'm not buying it a full price 495 GBP) and to keep warm in the winter.

If you're shopping for bargains you just take the risk of buying something that may not be the best quality for the price... Either that or be extremely patient. If you're going to pay full price for an overcoat in that style, I'd suggest something like the Cording Covert coats (~425GBP). Might also try checking out Yoox for deals, although the fit might be a bit more hit and miss buying online.

Damn you all - I was about to pull the trigger on this exact same coat (exact same auction actually) but I've changed my mind now.

Actually I just lost the auction. The coat was sold for 220 GBP. Same model and size was sold a few weeks ago for 240 GBP, I was not willing to pay more than 200 GBP. Thanks for your comments.
