pussies.

I spend an hour or so every day on vacation doing phone calls and mail, as do the people who report to me. that is life. that's how you pay for vacation, you work.

+1

Plus, the premise of this thread is flawed:
Conne poasting about telephone calls concerning work

The same problem is in his threads about women and having friends.

Bullshit. I work as a means to afford to go on vacations. I don't want my work following me there. Granted, I make sure that when I leave, everything important that needed to be done by the time I come back is finished, and I'll check emails every once in awhile to answer a simple question or two, but anything that would take any amount of my time can wait until I get back. If its actually important and has a deadline that comes before I get back, my co-worker will get it done for me. I do the same for him when he's out.

I have come to view vacation spots as really nothing more than remote offices, where I don't have to put in a full day and actually get to spend a few hours each day relaxing. It makes the inevitable calls more palatable. Land speed record for me? Got an urgent call 15 minutes after I left the office and was on my way to the airport.

I truly do believe there's some wisdom to the guy who essentially said you should be worried if you don't get bothered while on vacation.

Sometimes I get back and see the volume of missed calls, and all the panic emails and stuff and smile. The vacation served the purpose of getting me away.

Although, I do feel bad because sometimes my parents or my gf get calls, people think I've died, etc. People refuse to believe "no cell phone reception" means no cell phone reception.

Interesting. A tropical island would be nice. A little bit out casted but yeah... you can always enjoy the beaches.

It's tough for you guys.

I'm fortunate that when I'm on vacation I never get bothered.

Maybe 'cause I'm small-time but hey, I don't care.

I know that no one is indispensable despite what they think or are made to believe. However, when one is so dispensable that everything in the office, with his clients/customers can cruise easily for a week or two without any sort of input or intervention, one should be seriously questioning the value created for the employer. The employer and colleagues should be questioning it too.

True. What's the use of working so hard if we can not enjoy what we've earned.

I don't even like getting called on my days off. I don't get paid enough to be contacted while on vacation. If i got one phone call while on vacation I would bill a full days work. One of the reasons I chose this job was so I don't get bothered with this crap.
