We had real drama last night on our otherwise quiet street. The single man who just bought the house across from us had a row with his girlfriend. Arms waiving, fingers pointing at the lawn mover (he was mowing when she apostrophed him), exagerated mouthing of words, doors banged, car doors slammed, car speeding off. Car coming back. Girlfriend moving quickly through the house, getting stuff, then taking off again.
I hope your breakup was at least amicable.

I pushed through these periods of life using a journal, and when that failed, friends, and when I needed to be alone, travel. Take heart.

    1. I agree with Stu 100%

    2. at 20, I don't know if (and sorry that this is not what you want to hear) you really will have found your soulmate- very possibly you are not yet completly formed into the person you will grow into, and settling down with the right person for you now may not be what will make you happy in 30 years.

    3. I had 2 huge heartbreaks, at 23 and at 30. in both cases, I can't begin to tell you how happy I am that I didn't end up with those girls.

    4. I would have been very sorry to have settled down with a woman I met at 20- I enjoyed my first 35 years as a single man too much.

    5. when I did try to fight for the 2 women who broke my heart, it made melook like a fool and I did some really horrible and hurtful things that cost me the respect of some of my friends.

    6. what i didn't do, which may have helped, was listen to what the women wanted that I didn't have, and make that change. I can't say that it would have helped. I can say that it would have changed my life completly and left me a different person, if I had changed for them. but it may have gotten results, I can't say. what I did do was tell them over and over how important it was to me, and not try to tell them what they wanted to hear from me.

    7. my vote is walk away, get a tatoo, get laid a lot, and get on with your life.

    good luck

    Globetrotter is a wise man.

I remember my last broken heart. It kinda sucks, huh?

On the bright side I can say without reservation that if I were told that I only had a week to live I would run to her and beg her to take me back... by day 5 I would be praying for death and contemplating suicide.

Hang in there, take the stress out at the gym, buy new clothes and move forward with or without her.

Sounds trite but at 35 you'll look at 20 and say "WTF was i THINKING." with regularity.

I don't think any guy needs to date at your age. Go out an dhave fun. Meet girls and party. Trust me when I say forget her and move on.

Whoa, globetrotter, you ought to have a tv show. Like Oprah or Dr. Phil. Really. The only change I'd make to your advice is to skip the tatoo and maybe try to find some good weed or something. I too, had my heart broken at 20; God, how I thought I loved her. We actually got together for a couple of one-night stands afterward: two and four years after the breakup. About the only thing memorable from the reunions was the sex; beyond that, it was entirely forgetable. I think the only thing about not having a steady would be the absolutely scary state of stds. And a guy smart enough to hang with a bunch like us is surely astute enough to stay out of that kind of trouble. Move on; get toasted if need be, but move on young man.

Meet someone else and make sure word gets back to her.

Crawling around after her until she takes you back will dramatically shift the balance of power in the relationship and you will end up miserable because of it.

If you hook up with someone else she'll either realise what she's missing and come back to you, or you'll end up with the new girl(s) and the pain of the old breakup will fade very rapidly as you find new happiness.

    Win-win situation.

Given what's happened with BG both ON and off the forum, I'd say that whether he got his girl back is the LEAST of his problems...

I am 19 and my girlfriend is 18, and I am POSITIVE she is the one for me. So don't be scared of by all these people saying that there are plenty of fish in the sea. It's kind of troubling that she left you, which means you guys aren't perfect for each other, and you can probably find someone better. In my case, we mesh so perfectly neither of us are going anywhere.

I feel ya man. I dated a girl from 15-19, and I KNEW she was the one for me.

    I ditched her.

And now I'm 21 and there's a new girl i've dated for 2 years who's the one for me.
THIS time, is THE time. Hope springs eternal.
