I'm interested in purchasing the Polo Benton ($595 retail) cap toe. When does Polo have the lowest price sales? I assume the shoe is made by C&J. Do they have an equivalent shoe?

Don, yes the polo Tellman.
It is a tan bal captoe. retail 595 as well, but you can get it at their sales around 200 or on ebay from grapevinehill (does he sell these still?) at around less than that.
i bought mine at rodeo for 191 dollars.

oh, the sale usually is around after christmas i believe.

Are you saying that you purchased the shoe from the Rodeo drive store for less than $200? Wow, that is great. I tried on the Benton at the Rodeo drive store.

Let me clarify something: What I was wondering is if C&J has an equivalent shoe to the Benton.

The C&J Belgrave Handgrade is roughly equivalent to the Benton. I bought a pair of Benton's from Grapevinehill on eBay about 6 months ago for $187. Keep your eyes open

FWIW, I haven't noticed a Tellman on GVH for a while. There was a time - 6 months ago or so? - when they made regular appearances. He may have sold off his stock.

The Benton and Tellman are two different shoes. The toe cap is slightly different and the Benton is offered in a dark brown/oak color while the Tellman was sold in a dark tan. Both shoes featured a black model. Grapevinehill, my favorite Ebay store, had a run of Tellmans across all sizes earlier this year (haven't seen a pair offered in months). They also had a few Bentons at that time. Prices were around $200ish in popular sizes and dropped to a low of around $160 for odd lots.

Be forewarned, the lasting on the Benton and Tellman is different. The Tellman is an elongated last, similar to the 337, such that I can slip down a half size and it fits perfectly for my slightly narrower than D foot. The quarters are also designed to accomodate an average to low instep. You should avoid these shoes if you have a short, wide foot with a big instep. They will never fit right.

Happy Hunting.

P.S. Other shoes on the Tellman last:
1) Chawner Double Monk--I have an antiquing experiment with these
2) 3-eyelet Derby (model unknown)

I got the Tellman at Rodeo Drive for approx. $190; didn't know they sold off the Bentons this year.

Well darn, I paid $229 + tax for my Tellman this August in SF at RL.

I still love them. They are certainly a value even at the $295 or so that has been hitting Ebay recently. Ya gotta miss GVHs inventory however.
