Getting pants hemmed question?

I plan on getting a few pair of casual chinos hemmed this week and was wondering if I should wash them before I take them in. They still have the tags on them. I was thinking that the actual size might be truer if they were washed. Thanks!!!!

Wash them first, just to be sure. Using the dryer is the usual cause of shrinkage, but cotton pants always have a way of shrinking just a little from regular washing.

Or you could take a cue from the denimheads on the streatwear forum and wear them for six months or so without washing or hemming, to properly break them in.

But philosophe's approach is probably the better one.

Yeah, wash them the way you plan to wash them before taking them in, then get them hemmed about .25" extra to account for future shrinkage and possible waist expansion. Cotton pants don't take well to being let out/down in the future.
