Following on from the interest shown in my last crop of Esky illustrations, here are the fruits of a recent eBay purchase which I thought you might be interested to share:

Henley Regatta:

A formal country wedding:

[Note the notched-lapel, 2-button morning coat, cloth topped boots[?] and what looks suspiciously like a turndown collar on the best man, along with the page boy's eton collar and the slipped waistcoat and bow tie being worn by the father of the bride. I also find the grey coat with non-matching trousers an interesting touch; I usually associate that shade of coat with matching trousers. The groom appears to be wearing a white d/b waistcoat and shoes with a row of broguing across the toecap]

And some summer fashions:

[Apologies for the fact that this one has some loss at the margins, due to the limitations of my scanner. The hat is the "Jippa-jappa", in case you can't make out the writing.]

More to follow when I have time.

My current commute takes me through Henley twice a day and I will still be doing said commute at the time of the regatta. I therefore have to say that I have mixed feelings about the event... unless I can get a bit of annual leave to coincide with the merry pageant.

Lovely pictures, as always from Esky. The bride looks remarkably demure. One might even say pensive.

The herringbone/houndstooth trousers with the morning coat (in the background of the second picture) seem an odd choice. Thoughts?

I think I want one of those white-piped regatta jackets.

- Sir! Are you a member of this club?
Ralph Lauren sells them now - they're part of the ball-boy/club official collection they made for Wimbledon.

They never really went away; the boaties at my old college* tended to wear their blazers (and, indeed, rugby shirts) this way and it was a tradition that went at least as far back as the 1930s.

The UCBC blazer is a rather handsome creation of white flannel piped cardinal (the college colour - a type of maroon)

Anthony, this is off-topic, but did you participate in Cantate Domino while at Durham?

Would that be the recording of the same name by the University College Chapel choir? Unfortunately not, as I have all the innate musicality of a small squeaky plastic duck (that has lost its squeak.) I used to love listening to them at choral evensong on a Thursday, though.

What's wrong with light gray for summer? (I've got one under consideration right now.)
