They seem MUCH sleeker than the Barrie last.
I was never a fan of longwings especially from the likes of Alden and Trickers because they're a bit clunky for my tastes....but those Carmina's on the Detroit are fabulous. My interests have been peaked now. Originally I was sold on a pair of Double Monks in tan on the Simpson last but those longwings are making it difficult for me to decide now.
Regarding GentlemensFootwear.com, I really appreciate the Navy Shell Jodphur Boots by Carmina.
The regretful thing is it is too big for me (I am a UK9-9.5) and Carmina is not going to continue this Shell Jodphur anymore
Do you have an official sizing suggestion for the Detroit last?
When I made the comment about the Barrie last, I really was referring to that frustrating experience whee I realized the heel was way too lose on so many Aldens.
Also... does that shoe have a storm welt? Doesn't look like it to me.
You are correct, No more Shell Jodhpurs unfortunately
Betty told me few people have reached out to her directly for this MTO but the factory will not do it anymore and our order was the last of its kind. They broke so many shells while making our boots as well. Sorry to be the bearer of the bad news.
Both Betty and Tony tells me that you should take your normal UK size on this.
However, many reports have suggested that you should size half down from your normal UK size unless you have EEE wide feet.
I have sold few pairs so far and all reported that sizing half from their regular UK worked well.
Also if you want to compare from Alden Barrie last, size down 1 full size.
and you are correct, our LW does not feature the storm welt
I am the same boat as you are!
I was pleasantly surprised to see Carmina's Detroit last in person. Well balanced between sleek, yet bulky enough to pass for a budapester street stompers imho
If no shell but in calf, I may just jump to John Lobb Jodhpur directly...
There are 3 members interested for navy calf Jodhpur (Rain Last) boots right now
If calf quality by Carmina is decent enough, count me in please.
I wear a UK9F in Gaziano & Girling, would a UK9 in Rain wide enough?
a 9E or 9.5D in Alden Barrie last also, FYR
I think we should do 9 UK EEE for you on Rain last (EE is standard for Rain Last)
You make 4th person! once we have 2 more I will contact you with more details! Cheers & many thanks!
Thanks a lot!
However can we suggest Carmina to have museum calf used? Or they just only let us to choose from certain kinds of leather?
Come on dorks, get on that rain shell derby. Daddy needs new shoes!
we had so many interest on this model but only 5 confirmed at this point! just need that one more person!!
Already have! (museum calf)
I don't think they have plans at the moment but it can certainly change in the near future
Steve, I feel bad because I was one of those formerly interested in the above Rain shell derby. Mrs. Notreknip cut up my credit cards; hopefully I'll be able to piece them back together by Summer. Accordingly, feel free to order an additional 8UK to hit the minimum and I'll do everything I can to meld the plastic back together ASAP.
Kidding aside, I can't justify the expense right now, but they're beautiful and I wish I could join in.
I guess Rain is the most popular last for US customers. For Euro stores, you see a lot more Simpson.
