I'm pretty sure that no mans shoe collection could possibly even come close to even being remotely complete without these ... especially the navy ones. If you don't get these you will probably just blow the money on lotto tickets and bubblegum anyway so may as well put that $$$$$ to good use lets go!!!

When I look at the Detroit longwing, i immediately think of the loose, sloppy fit of the Barrie last. Is that irrational?

The storm welt makes the shoe look blobbier than it is. The Detroit last is no wider than the Robert last.

^ seriously?? But isn't the Robert a narrower last like Oscar and Simpson or am I confusing things...?

How is the instep on the Detroit?

Quote:I'd say you're both wrong. ;-) I find the Robert pretty much a middle of the road standard width last. It's not as wide as Detroit / Inca / Soller, and certainly not as narrow as Simpson.

I did. One of my good friend who wears the same size as me wanted them so now its gone :(
I am now debating whether to jump in between the saddle 2 eyelet derby or the congnac longwing!

they seem to run quite wide so I hear quite a few people size down half from their UK size. I am thinking about jumping in on the mto for the longwing myself and order half size down from my regular UK size.

Id have to agree with RogerP,
Haven't tried on the Robert myself but Tony & Betty said they are on the slimmer side (but not as slim as Simpson)

Here are some pictures of the Detroit Last. They werent has blobby as I imagined to me.

They seem MUCH sleeker than the Barrie last.

I was never a fan of longwings especially from the likes of Alden and Trickers because they're a bit clunky for my tastes....but those Carmina's on the Detroit are fabulous. My interests have been peaked now. Originally I was sold on a pair of Double Monks in tan on the Simpson last but those longwings are making it difficult for me to decide now.

Regarding GentlemensFootwear.com, I really appreciate the Navy Shell Jodphur Boots by Carmina.

The regretful thing is it is too big for me (I am a UK9-9.5) and Carmina is not going to continue this Shell Jodphur anymore [IMG]

    Steve,

Do you have an official sizing suggestion for the Detroit last?

When I made the comment about the Barrie last, I really was referring to that frustrating experience whee I realized the heel was way too lose on so many Aldens.

Also... does that shoe have a storm welt? Doesn't look like it to me.

You are correct, No more Shell Jodhpurs unfortunately :(
Betty told me few people have reached out to her directly for this MTO but the factory will not do it anymore and our order was the last of its kind. They broke so many shells while making our boots as well. Sorry to be the bearer of the bad news.

Both Betty and Tony tells me that you should take your normal UK size on this.
However, many reports have suggested that you should size half down from your normal UK size unless you have EEE wide feet.
I have sold few pairs so far and all reported that sizing half from their regular UK worked well.

Also if you want to compare from Alden Barrie last, size down 1 full size.

and you are correct, our LW does not feature the storm welt :)

I am the same boat as you are!
I was pleasantly surprised to see Carmina's Detroit last in person. Well balanced between sleek, yet bulky enough to pass for a budapester street stompers imho :)
