gentlemen, a case for navy trousers?

Trying to pair complimentary trousers to the jacket below. It's a light brown (or tan) corneliani (94 percent wool 6 percent silk) with a pronounced weave up close. First two times I wore it with jeans. Today with mid grey trousers, which I think failed. I prefer higher contest (which I tried to get with my shirt pairing today). Pre SF I'd have worn blue trousers without a thought. If not blue, what other recommendations?
