Been invited to Tenerife for five days of adventure, including a 70K road and 40K gravel ride.

Though I used to ride every day for decades, it's been 20 years since I've been on a bike. A friend lent me one of his hand-built bikes so I can get some saddle time in.

Sweet bike. Horse Cycles.

They're held in place by friction with three little set screws each. Very futzy to tighten in that little inner diameter but at least you can partially extend them through drilled holes before you insert into your bar end (TWSS!) Plan on 15 minutes due to the futz factor and not wanting to strip a set screw.

Interesting. I just saw a clip about that. Looks like a nice form factor. If I were doing longer rides (and farther from home) , I’d carry something similar. I’m just too lazy to repair/plug roadside. Last couple of flats, I called home for a ride.

FWIW, if you’re doing it right, you’ll be plugged before you could even call for a ride and then it is just a matter of getting some air back in there.

Faster you notice the sealant spray and slam a plug in there, the less pressure you lose too (although on road tires there’s probably not much room between “rideable” and “uselessly flat”)

Speaking of plugs, I was lazy about patching the plugged holes in my tires and nearly got caught out. The plug in the front was completely worn away on the outside, barely hanging on inside. 😅

After patching, I tried seating the beads with my floor pump because I didn’t want to listen to my noisy compressor. Pleasantly surprised to find that the pump worked perfectly.

Weather finally cooling after an awful summer. Heatwaves definitely impacted cycling mojo. Made around 150 miles this past week with a 30 miler today. Should be a good Fall.

Rock Creek Park here in DC from yesterday.

Fall in DC is amazing. Perfect cycling weather. Did my fav Rock Creek Park trail today. Saw in the news that police were watching the trails for cyclists exceeding the posted 15mph speed limit in the residential portions of Capital Crescent trail (for the most part). Sure enough they were there but I guessed correctly that they would be by bridges and other places they could park and not have to walk too far. Zipped by them at a slightly high speed and nodded politely. Not like they were using radar guns...

Well, dang. Looks like I fractured my pelvis when I crashed a couple weeks ago. Crutches for three weeks. I’m hoping to get out on some easy fall rides… 😟
Sadness. I hope you have a speedy recovery.
