I slapped some new Contis on my Guerciotti with Chorus 10 that I built up around 30 years ago. It’s still a beautiful bike but man, it’s like riding a tank compared to my Canyon. And, it was a pretty light steel frame!
Mine is Columbus SL, I'm guessing yours is maybe the same.
Also about the same time frame.
I sent the frame to Cycle Art in San Diego, not sure if they're still around.
Had the frame done in Pearl, they re-decal'd it and clear coated over everything.
It still looks fantastic.

No idea really, but it does feel really good to me. Is it the SI that makes it feel so plush? Maybe.

Also if you don’t have pivot bearing issues, you might not have SI issues. Lots of people out there replace pivot bearings fairly often.

The sb120 does seem to use a different orientation than the 100/115. The 115 is stupid easy. Remove cover, grease, clean, recover.

The 120 looks like it adds extra steps but you could probably do it every 2 years and be fine…still way less work than a shock service which can cost hundreds.
Interesting. I had seen a video where it was much more involved - but I guess that's just the higher travel bikes.

If it's just what you described it doesn't sound bad at all.

Yeah I guess that’s more work but not too bad. Do you have to air down the shock to move the swing arm like that or is just removing the bolt enough?

When it starts asking for loctite and torque wrenches I’ll acknowledge that it is a step above a 5 min lube job.

This seems like a lot more than 5 min of work to me. The dude removes both wheels, unfastens cable ports to create slack, etc. Definitely less work than a shock service, but you still have to service Yeti shocks so it's not like this is an either/or situation for Yeti owners.

Some guy on reddit says he does it every 50-100km which is wild, but he says he got it down from 20-10 min with experience. I don't even wash my bike that often!

Granted, what you've describes for your SB120 is much less problematic but this level of work definitely puts me off the bigger Yetis (unless and until my life circumstances were to change).

Mines a 115 which after looking at this seems like they set it for “easy mode”—gotta pull the rear wheel and unscrew a plastic cover and you’re good to go. Maybe could even do it with the wheel on and a ratchet driver to get the cover off.

My guess is on the bigger bikes people either figure out which steps they can skip or get it down to memory…doing it every 50-100km is insane though. That’s more than chain cleaning and lubing for most people!

Post a photo! I’d love to have mine repainted but I should ride it more first. The paint is in nice shape overall but chips SO easily. It was pretty much the last groupset that Campy did in all polished aluminum.

New bike day - I'll play! First time installing a full tailored "Ride Wrap" kit. Not sure it is worth the faff, and still a couple bubbles in the wrap that I know will drive me crazy... but hopefully the frame protection is worth it in the long run - especially for resale value!

Now to get riding it!

Wait, aren’t you the guy who keeps saying his grail bike would be a Rock Lobster?

Big congrats if so

No, just that I’d buy another one in a heartbeat. This one was built for me in 2007.
