Exactly. They’re so finicky that I took the brake off the front on my cyclocross bike and put on a Shimano cantilever. The problem is that they can easily overpower a carbon fork, exaggerating the effect of a small mistake in positioning them.

So actually going with carbon. Decided to give the Chinese a go with Light Bicycle carbon rims. Mid-depth at 35 mm, glossy UD.

Looking forward to seeing what they are like. Reviews online seem really promising.

Just ordered something for integrated (pocket) storage. Arrives tonight as I want it for my planned ride on Saturday. :)

Also, nabbed some rubber cleat covers for my SPDs. Amazon Prime Day ftw.

Orange Fury is up and running! @Thrift Vader , the white levers you restored became too difficult to put on handlebars since the clearance changed from the paint :(

No worries as they will find another home in a fourth single speed project I’ll be working on during the winter. Coming soon for that one! I’ll have to sand it a bit touch up the paint if need be.

still waiting for decals

New Altus triple FD + good deal on a new in box Alivio crankset made it functioning and complete

Looks great man!
The gear levers are sketch AF tho.
nothing a little sandpaper couldn't fix. but no, it does look great as you have spec'd it.
Are you going to upgrade it further?

Yeah definitely sand paper and TLC but it’ll look better on a proper road frame I got that will be royal blue (!)

Friction levers FTW and they’re Shimano so they are good. Looking to get Conti CrossKing/TrailKing tires but they’re out of stock for 26. Any recommendations on what else it may need to upgrade?

Try the Kenda "Small block 8" for tires, I got them and they are reasonably fast on tarmac with little noise.
can be dicey on large gravel though, good casual tire.
-Dirt trails.
Perhaps more gnarly if your trails demand it.
(Maxxis holy roller 26"?)
I would most def upgrade the wheels and hubs.
And you would be surprised how cheap a complete shimano gears/lever set is from Taiwan. like $50?
Then it's ready to go . :fonz:

It's pretty easy, just get 9mm axle. 26".
Used is ok.
Then the gears.
Take it to the LBS. :thumbs-up:

It's looking good though, really excited to see which stickers you chose. :lurk:

This fits perfectly inside a standard cycling jersey pocket. Money, copy of driver's license, a credit card, two CO2 cylinders, a patch kit, a few GU, a couple zip ties, some duct tape, sunblock lip balm. Grab and go, don't have a bunch of items shifting around in the pocket, never forget anything.
