It usually does:

I have the same problem compounded by having to wear custom orthotics to keep the arch in place - at least we don't get bored being able to just buy shoes like normal people.

If it appears I have a normal arch (maybe tiny bit higher) so I would assume then by this that I have a normal instep. However most RTW shoes usually hurt at instep but not above ball. Can I conclude then that RTW shoes have barely normal or less than normal instep height?

Figures you would say this! I have actually never worn bluchers and probably never will. I don't care for the look of them.

No, I still buy them, just suffer a bit. Some major V's in the eyelets of a lot of my oxfords. Doesn't bother me much.

Some of the Italian manufacturers build enormously high insteps (here a "˜Sutor Mantellassi')

all that exaggerated machismo, that instep goes up to 'One o'clock'

compared to a Ferragamo which strikes me as a more average instep .

American manufacturers cut traditionally a relatively low instep.

It's horses for courses.

I wouldn't say I am missing out. I like looking at them as pieces of art, but I don't like the way they look with my style.

I do have boots, chelsea and balmoral boots only.

Sneakers? Running shoes? Not a chance.

it's more about your health than style... actually, i think the "fact" you discovered the custom route with rider is a move in the right direction.

Well, no - I think the point is that there's wide variation in brands, lasts, and combinations of lasts and styles within brands.

As a person afflicted with a high arch, I have to say that Chukkas are rather uncomfortable. I am a wearer of open laced shoes though (gasp even with suits), since I can't find any oxfords that come close to closing over my instep.

Finally had a chance to view the Deco range yesterday, they are very nice. The finishing is certainly a level up from the standard range and on par with the bespoke shoes. They are not as sharp as you would think, certainly wearable. I did not order a pair though alas, I opted for a bespoke Brogue instead.

I am sure Luk Cha can share some photos when he has sobered up from the evening's festivities.

I understand Luk-cha took our beloved shoemaking pair for a scenic walking tour of Hong Kong island at 4.30am in the morning.

Regardless, the 9AM fitting for the seamless stitchless buffalo whole cuts was a success. A second order was placed for my first pair of black shoes in a long time

So I gather, I left them not much before that.

Glad to hear the fitting was fine.
