Is this in need of a resoling? Any signs of imminent failure?
It looks like the original heel to me and the heel is the first to need replacing. Push with your thumb into the centre of the sole: if it feels hard, the sole is fine. If it feels soft and spongy, the sole will need replacing soon.

BS is right - soft and spongy means you're near the cork filling....

I see the picture is also exposing the stitches where its been channeled (around the edges). Many people seem to get overly
concerned when they see this. Perfectly fine.

Do you think getting it Topied will suffice?
Think youre fine. They seem a bit dry - if I were you I`d put a neutral leather lotion on the soles - will make them last that extra stretch

That pair has been worn plenty but evenly. It's odd to see that even the fiddle back shows signs if contact

With this amount of wear, is it advisable to get it topied at this stage?

Thinking of extending the 'sole life' as much as possible before a resole. I'm just afraid that applying topy will weaken the actual leather sole further.

I'd think the contact on the fiddle back could just be from uneven ground. If you're walking on a sidewalk and a piece is raised the fiddle will hit. Then again I weigh a fair amount so maybe I'm weird.

This is wrong on so many levels. Uneven or rough ground, seat/chair and posture, or different daily activities would all cause wear at the waist of shoes...

But then it's another story for shoe collectors/exhibitionists.
