Why do you think it would be hard? Whole cuts may be the easiest shoe to make. The real trick is to recognize that without all the gimping and broguing and even pattern pieces, there's less to divert the eye. The lines of the last and the shoe, and the workmanship that went into it, have to be exceptional to make the shoe rise above the ordinary.

I thought that the stretching process would be more difficult with less elastic exotic skins. Shoes with more seams have the advantage of bending at those seams rather than bending the skins; my guess would be that wholecut exotics wouldn't last as long.

My own opinion is that laces spoil the front of a shoe having said that I would not want all of my shoes to be without laces.
