It's a great sole if you like thicker double soles because you still get the beveled waist which we all love G&G for.

What does characterizes a HAF sole, if I may ask?

But is it just a normal double leather sole or is it different? I'm sorry if these questions don't make much sense but I tried to google it and couldn't find any real info on it.

Double sole tapering to single, should give you the best of both worlds, but sometimes (and in this case IMHO) doesn't look that good

I happen to like a double sole which tapers into a single sole. But I think, the waist
ought to be square (not bevelled) and it even looks better (as in this sample) with a
    'stitched seat' (360 degree welt)..

I agree with fritzl that it often doesn't look that good - lack of balance for more refined shoes. The photo you posted looks good because of the more substantial heel but most importantly it looks like the heel is of the correct height/higher than usual. Often with HAF soles there is no compensation made with the heel height and you get a shoe tip that is too far of the ground. For instance the G&G shoe looks like it is leaning backwards

It would be nice to see the whole shoe from G&G - cutting off the heal in the photo doesn't help.

Although I tend to agree the HAF sole is a risky thing to try on a model such as the Uppingham - which is decidely sleek and elegant.

Although, on the foot, and in 'the wild' I'm betting 99% of the world wouldn't even discern the difference.

Bengal Stripe - thank you for the photo - it is a beautiful shoe you posted - elegant and sturdy at the same time.

Woohoo. My order (Grant TG73 vintage oak) placed directly with Dean on 23rd August - email from Dean on Friday (27th Jan) to say that they're ready for dispatch. That's 5 months and 4 days. Given that Dean's estimate when I placed my order was that 4.5 months would be optimistic and 5 months was more likely, and that in the UK many companies, especially smaller ones, usually close for the entire week between Christmas and the yew year, that seems pretty true to Dean's estimate.

I read posts from a while ago where the waiting time seemed to be getting longer and longer and, based on my single data point, that at least doesn't seem to have happened in my case. Hopefully G&G are avoiding too much creep and are keeping the waiting time within roughly 5 months. For me quality is most important but, after that, predictability is what matters to me. If I know that I'll need to wait 5 or even 6 months for my next order then so be it, at least I can plan for that, but what I really don't want to experience is a 5 month estimate turning into an 8 or 9 month wait.

Sadly I'm travelling right now so I probably can't give Dean the go-ahead to ship until the end of this week and might not get them until next week but at least I can now start thinking about breaking them in, seeing how happy I am with the quality and the fit and, all things being well, placing my next order. I might just be able to get my next order in in time to get some lighter-coloured summer shoes to go with cream linen trousers, something in vintage pine maybe.

    - Julian
