yeah - we are really a bit sick around here, sometimes.

but only in the most intricate and arcane ways possible.

that's what makes the 'shoe guys' the most interesting, and alarming, collection of personalities on these here fora.

What do you call this kind of leather? Can any G&G MTO be ordered in this leather?

I believe it's called Hatch Grain, as seen in this chukka from leffot:

I believe it is the (faux) "Russian Calf" - not the real one from the sunken ship which have been some 200 years under water, but a 'recreation' from an Italian tannery. We have seen recently a few bespoke shoes done in that leather, but it appears it is also available as made-to-order.

    Contact G&G or NickA/

This is correct. The Hatch Grain will be uploaded as an option on my MTO programme this week along with many exotics including some lizards and alligators. The hatch grain is a very good version of the ever popular Russian leather mentioned. The Russian leather is becoming more rare now and the quality is getting more dificult to guarantee so the Hatch grain is a preferred choice for shoes made to higher quality.

man, I really used to love G&G, but looking at these last few dozen posts, I don't think I'd want any of them. At this point, the only G&G I'd be interested in would be a st.james II or similar.

I would imagine the medium brown or light brown would be a decent match if you want to stick to MdO but there are perhaps a better match in Saphir's other ranges.

    You would! :)

I'm groovin' on those chukkas at the moment.

They are almost dressy enough to wear with a suit! (Not really - but close.)

Lots of full on double soles in pics - interesting how they look on a G&G. I'm feeling mixed about it. Sort of like the 'elegance on top/utility on bottom vibe' and sort of don't.

In any case - they are all stellar in terms of their near perfection of execution. I imagine all those MTO customer's who ordered them are quite pleased with them. I would be.

    not their territory, imo.

although i love scotch grain a lot, it's not accomodating for some styles and models, imo.
