Actually, homosexuality serves sociological purposes. For example, it is a good form of natural population control, for obvious reasons. Homosexual activity has been exhibited at greater frequency in mice when they are subjected to crowded living conditions. There are other, considerably more controversial findings as well.

Edit I thought it necessary to add that if crowded living conditions are a stressor for homosexual tendencies, than those afraid that they might be predisposed to having homosexual tendencies would do well to move to Montana... or Idaho...

Don't mice subjected to crowded living conditions resort to cannibalism rather readily as well?

And has being gay ever enhanced human survival in any societies that we know of? I seem to recall that even in enlightened, tolerant America, gay men die at a considerably younger average age than straight men and that this was true even prior to the outbreak of AIDS.

I know a guy who turned gay because his piano teacher molested him and his daddy ignored him as a child - he suffered from a "father deficit" -- now he's undergoing some sort of Primal Therapy in California (evidently he screams and cries a lot) and he's trying to become an "ex-gay" but he keeps "acting out" with male escorts (seeking the daddy he never had). I feel sorry for him because he's obviously conflicted... he doesn't want to be gay (finds the anonymous sex lifestyle empty and unfulfilling), yet he can't help who he is. Sad, really... he's just not in to women, even though he had sex with one when he was in high school.

The whole Primal Scream business reminds me of those odd Birthing rites which essentially puts a person into a fake womb and reenacts the vaginal birth.
