Marathon runners and high end athletes might need Gatorade but for the avg person water is sufficient. If you drink Gatorade you might as well drink soda.

One interesting point- a friend of mine who works for the company overseeing Gatorade in the UK said that only the UK market gets a version without any artificial additives ie an 'all natural' version. This could be sales rubbish and you may tell me different. Apparently it is rare amongst energy and replenishment drinks. Personally, I use a generic type drink which is far cheaper and of similar composition to the more expensive athlete endorsed brands.

Smart water and Trader Joe's electrolyte enhanced water are good and without the calories. The other stuff, although also electrolyte enhanced, is like drinking a popsicle. And who needs the corn syrup calories after a normal workout?

Regular Gatorade Et al. has a lot of junk that even 'elite' athletes dont need and will never need. Your drink of choice should depend on what you need. Electrolytes? I personally use Nuun Caplets in H20. Carbohydrates?... I supplement with gel. Water during the day.

Gatorade makes me cramp (in my shoulders and sides) if I drink while exercising (cycling). It's fine for after/recovery if I am thirsty.

Accelerade is good and Cytomax. Both seem to do the job on my longer workouts (3, 4 hours).

I once vomitted and shat for two days due to Vitamin water. I won't touch it.

Not tried that, but just bought a few One Natural Experience Coconut Waters from my local...just like Zico. Really refreshing, with 1/2 the sugar, and doesn't taste like crap like G2.

I've also just tried O2H2O which is supposedly oxygenated water...first time I drank it I wasn't nearly as thirsty through the night, but not sure if thats because of my diet that day or the new water. Anyone else use the oxygenated water? Or is it just bull ****?

g2 is good--more sodium and less sugar than regular gatorade.

great for a hangover.

Couldn't imagine riding 80+ miles w/o gatorade.

The gatorade you buy in the store has too much salt for its water content. Pro athletes who drink gatorade used the powdered one for a more diluted mix (about three times as much water), although it doesnt taste as good.

dont get me wrong, sodium needs to be replenished.. but you have to have the right ratio of water to avoid dehydration
