I've looked up this topic here but to no avail.
Disappointed today, spilled a good amount of gas on my leather boots.

It's been windy in my town, 30-40mph gusts. I was filling up my car with gas and had the pump on auto. The wind blew the pump out of my car and gas/petrol flew into the air like a zoolander scene. It got on my pants, but worse, also on my 2 month old Alden 403! They didn't stain but they smell bad. I know they work boots but hate this smell.

I saddle soaped them well last night and left them outside to air out. This helped a little. I wore them to work and got the worse headache and very dizzy. Any advice on getting the smell out? I'm guessing my best bet is to air them out for a week.

I'm gonna bump this old thread to see if anyone else can throw in some input. I stepped in a puddle of gasoline (thinking it was water for it had been raining). Now my wolv 1000s smell like gas!

There's no real treatment to remove smell other than airing them out. Liberal use of conditioner and cleaning might help.

As long as there's no discolouration you should be fine, and the smell with eventually fade.

It will fade in time, I wouldn't do anything that would alter the color of the leather personally, which I found that saddle soap has done on an old pair of Justin's work boots. If you live in a warmer, dryer environment, the smell will likely fade faster.

Thanks for the tips, guys! It's mainly the soles that are holding the smell. I guess I'll just wait it out

As far as the alden 403's go, it would be a good time to strike a match to them!

If the leather came in contact, I would condition. It's similar to naptha and other solvents in that it will bind and strip oils. Which is a big reason we use those solvents- naptha (aka white gas) used to be used for dry cleaning. But with leather, you very well may be fine, but it would be best to condition to make sure the oils are fine.

As for the smell, it'll fade over time.

This is by far the best method for getting rid of the smell.
