Hello.

I might have a problem with the heel of one of my shoes.  It's the kind of heel that looks like it's made of two jigsaw puzzle pieces.  There's a gap where the two pieces interlock.  (This is when looking at the bottom of the heel.)

I'm wondering if this gap could get water in it, retain some moisture and affect the life of the heel.   I think the heel is all leather.

Is there any cause for concern?  Is there anything I could fill the heel with?  Perhaps some kind of glue for leather?  The shoe is brand new, though factory seconds, so I'd rather not have it it re-heeled.

Edit: I spoke to the owner of the shop I bought it from. He said that gap should close by itself and not to worry. He told me the name of the piece (or perhaps the heel) was a 'dovetail quarter'.

lt's hard to know without pictures. Even still, l would think that the heal would close by itself.

l look forward to seeing other peoples opinions.

Can you post pictures?

If I get it right, you are referring to the rubber inset in a leather heel, which sometimes has a dovetail (puzzle) shape. This inset is only one layer deep; above it there are 4 or 5 layers of leather heel and a sole on top of that.

There is absolutely no need to worry about water penetration.
