Gah, Scratchy Sweaters

Ok, so until yesterday, I had never owned a "scratchy" wool sweater. But, to my dismay, I discovered that the Hope sweater I ordered from Revolve is not exactly what you would call soft. It's a clearance item and the refund deadline has passed, so I have two options--

1. I can deal with it. After all, I love the cut, design, and color. It's just scratchy
2. I can return it for store credit

I would like to find a way to move beyond my discomfort when I'm wearing it, because every other aspect of the sweater is pretty sweet. So, I'm wondering-- how do you all deal with scratchy wool sweaters? Or do you avoid them altogether?

A lot of the time, for me, if I can get past the first 10-15 minutes, it doesn't bother me anymore. I don't know whether the mind tunes it out or what, but that's how I get around it.

i have lots of raf simons sweaters which are as comfortable as a hair shirt. i wear underarmour under them in winter and a fitted t underneath in fall.

****, raf sweaters are scratchy? My Hope sweater wasn't exactly cheap, but now I'm learning that the expensiveness of the sweater doesn't guarantee softness.

Also, I just bought 5 AA longsleeves off of e-bay. I guess I was originally hesitant to keep the sweater because its price didn't reflect the softness, but I do like the design and cut. Cool.

I got the Bolan sweater in "anthracite melange." The cut is somewhat wide at the chest but tapers drastically, so it creates a slouchy fit that works really well with the off-kilter scoop neck. My camera is not exactly in the same house as I am, but I'll try to post fit pics sometime.

if you got plain wool, a wool blend, or lambswool it will be scratchy. it is the cheapest wool available. Traditionally it is worn over a shirt so you are not necessarily wearing the scratchy wool next to your skin. At least it is warm and light.

There are other wools which are not as scratchy, they have other drawbacks, merino is a little more expensive and has less loft, and cashmere which is soft, high loft, and way more expensive.

If you cheaped out and got a cheap lambswool sweater, well thats what you get.

At least you didn't get the worst of all, a cotton sweater

bingo - I'm wearing one of those sweaters now - I just wear a soft tshirt underneath. My arms are hairy enough for the scratching not to bother them.

Yeah, the thing is, it retails for like $227, which is why the material surprised me edit: I'm talking about my Hope sweater, which prices along the same lines as Acne, Corpus, whatever-- Raf would def be pricier for wool

if the raf lambswool sweater is $227, a cashmere version would be $800. sounds about right in line with raf pricing

jil cashmere sweaters were about $1150-1350 this season from what i recall.

Anyone know if the J-Crew 'cotton-cashmere' sweaters are scratchy? Is it worth it to go for their $250 cashmere (don't have it in Navy though)?
